my car cut out in the snow and it turned out the radiator fan motor had seized up due to it being covered in ice and blew the flew which also powers the starter motor.

mine wouldn't turn over at all though, but would bump start as soon as the wheels were rolling.

Fuel aeration, any drips anywhere?

Although if you're cranking it for ages it would also smell the same.

Is the smell of petrol there when it cuts out or just after you've cranked it?

If it needs to cool down before it starts again it sounds like the crank sensor, relatively common problem on that engine, they go open circuit when they get hot which causes the engine to cut out, once it cools down it makes the circuit again and it'll start

For the sake of less than £20 it could still be worth a try, as I say they are a common sensor to go

It's a cheap starting point if nothing else
