Looks like a bit of a basket case, V car but no V5 so you can't really tell what category, no MOT and an alternator problem. I would probably call him and ask him to let you know when the log book arrives so you can give him his 595.

That screams dodgy to me, V plate, no Docs, no MOT or Tax. I wouldn't even consider it, or I'd offer him scrap value at the very least. Not 995 he's dreaming asking for that.

The severity of the classification.

http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/insurance

Legally he can't even sell it without the V5, then probably a VIC check if it's cat C.

Cat D would be better news but if he's not stipulated I would guess he's trying to hide the fact it needs the check.

It's worth about 300 in bits, slightly more if the alternator just wants replacing. Obviously any more than that and you're gambling.

53 is still pre facelift, but for the mileage to be that low, it's been off the road for a while I'd imagine!

It looks shagged in all honesty. And I'd personally never want to own a categorised car - definitely not if I knew it was categorised.

Lack of V5 is another major no for me!
