I know lots of people always seem to make it there new years resolution to stop smoking but is anyone here trying to stop? If so what method are you using to try and stop?

Ive not smoked since hogmany, not really missed it all yet, hopefully will be able to keep going but if not I'l be off to the doctors for patches to help me stop

Also I'm trying to keep the money I would have spent on fags in a jar to see how much I can save myself, got a holiday with the mrs in egypt in the summer so the money I save will be going towards this.

I smoked when I was young for a few weeks, gave it up (I know, it's not the same) by replacing it with sweets...try the nicorette gum or any other gum etc to replace when you want a fag).

More appropriate, I was on cannabis for a long time, smoking several times daily for years. Gave it up with just will power, I will sometimes (maybe once per 3 months) go for a smoke with some friends but nothing more. Be strong, it might save you a premature death

Referring to the above comment, some poor cunt I work with gave up smoking and got diagnosed with cancer the next day.. Better to give it up earlier

I stopped a month ago, I was going to stop at new year but I knew I wouldn't keep it up so I decided to do it earlier.

I had my last smoke and flushed all my tobacco and skins down the loo, I didn't use any patches or tablets or anything, I just did it all myself and it was easier than I thought.

Did you find it got easier the longer you had stopped for danny? Heard the first week is ment to be the hardest?

tis what the advert says. You're X% more likely to stop for good if you don't have any the first week

First day is the hardest, then it's easy. I've had a few bad cravings, mainly on a Saturday night when I'm having a drink or whatever but nothing too bad. You soon notice a difference in your health though so that should keep up the incentive to not smoke.

cheers for the replies folks, obviously it will e good to try to get a bit fit and healthy again but the main thing that made me want to stop was the cost of it.

roughly was spending about £150 just on fags, as I say the money will be going towards the holiday fund now. May even treat the astra to a new set of wheels to give me something to show for my money for a change

I would have spent a fortune on proper cigs, it's weird for a while though as when you smoke and you are bored you have a fag, when you've quit there's fuck all to do

Answer: fuck off; that's going on clothes

that'd help a lot. If you can physically see the rewards of quitting smoking. it'll encourage you a lot. I wish you the best of luck

A chap I work with has switched to rollies from L&B and he's saving about £11 a day, that's how much he used to spend on them. Madness.

imagine if he were to quit altogether, it costs a lot of money to smoke. Saying that..I've not been addicted to smoking, I am addicted to alcohol. It costs a lot, I quit and then buy more a few days later..so I can sympathise with any smokers trying to quit. Wish you all best of luck

that is madness, must have been on about 40 a day!

I was smoking 20 lambert and butler a day, most shops were roughly £6 for a 20 pack, most days when i go to the shop for fags I'l buy a newspaper and a bottle of juice as well. Probably was spending £8 a day just on shite i really didnt need. Add that up over the month and thats about £240

Or over the year is about £2800

I was going to stop.

But I'm getting married next year and so many people I know who have quit smoking have piled the weight on.
And I don't want to be a fat bastard for my wedding.

you'd rather be dead? I don't mean to be so harsh but that is the reality of long-term smoking. It's not just tobacco and nicotine that goes into cigarettes, it's no wonder that shit causes cancer.

15 months today since I quit, did it cold turkey after 18 years.
Missed it occasionally in the summer when sat in the sun having a drink but glad I did it
