I'm about to start Beta testing a tracking solution and I'm looking for testers.

If anyone is interested all I ask is you cover the cost of the hardware which will be about £80 then all you'd need to do is get a simcard and keep it topped up or go for a £5/month pre-pay deal, It uses GPRS for position updates not SMS so the costs are minimal.

The service will let you track your car in real-time and if you use the immobolisation circuit it will also let you cut the fuel if it is stolen all from your mobile phone.

Give me a shout if you are interested in getting involved in testing.

Who's doing the fitting of these, and at what cost?

Any chance you need a NW contact for this?

Another thing... does it send data to a server continually, or only on demand? If continually, does it have a way to buffer the data whilst out of cellular range?

Does it offer any sort of live monitoring? i.e. alerts if the alarm is triggered, or the car is driven between certain times? etc...

What about text alerts? Are they available too?

I'd be interested in installing some in the NW area as a sideline to my full time job if that's an option for you?

GPRS would cost more than SMS if on a prepaid setup tbh

Sounds like a neat idea though

The data usage is MINIMAL most PAYG sims have a 30p minimum daily data charge in most cases that would equate to about 4 SMS messages so that £10/month credit. Or go for a £5/month deal with a data package.

I fear it would be near useless.

Any decent car thief just uses one of these:

Or they get one that does GPS and VHF (I think?) to knock out the trackers as well.

I'm sure every car theif has got one

Its only got to kick out one packet and get a fix on a satelite for a brief second and you'll be notified that its moved, its then only got to receive a single sms message to disable the car.

That's like saying door locks are useless because they can be bypassed... or alarms are useless because they can be bypassed... does that mean that you leave your car unlocked and unarmed?

Nothing is going to be 100% fullproof, but if you can increase your chances of getting your car back, or preventing it going in the 1st place, then it's better than nothing.

I'd be interested but would like to know if it can be set to constantly feedback to a server, I'd like to know where the scum are taking my pride and joy to strip it at the very least! Cutting the fuel supply I'm afraid wouldn't help if it was on the back of a trailer

How do you plan to make this take off any more than the myriad of solutions (including diy) that are out there already?

What's the update frequency? Wouldn't mind one of these in the Puma if you can monitor in real time.

Wouldn't mind seeing a few sample rows of data if that is possible.

Can do that with just about any phone that has gps and runs java, cutting fuel and immobilising needs more money/brains though.
