Alright, need a bit of advice, basically since I started my apprenticeship a year and a half ago I stopped playing golf and football, now Im wanting to bulk up, my mate says I need to eat healthily but tbh I usually have a roll and sausage mon-fri every morning which worries me! Ive made a plan tonight to do sit-ups,push-ups and pull-ups for 6 weeks (every night mon-fri) and I will be writing down the most I could do in that week(the most as in the most in one night - trying to beat other nights) Im also a member at the gym but I am absolutely nackered when I get home and have no motivation to go, ive been thinking about getting the full package and going weekends but dont want to waste my time! Im really after some friendly advice and to be pointed in the right direction! thanks

The fact you want to bulk up implies you think you're underweight/skinny...?

Starting Strength and milk (before ssj gets in here! ) is a good start.

How tall are you outta interest? Are you "skinny-fat"?

I did Starting Strength, then 2 cycles of 531 and went from 73kg to 82.5kg in about 8 months. I was "toned" before I started which looking back means weak and skinny.

Basically, have a routine and know exactly what you're doing before you go to the gym. I had a months routine worked out in advance (when I was going and how much I was lifting for how many reps) and I stuck to it. Infact, I think it worked because I knew exactly what I was doing when I got there rather than mincing around.

As for "cardio" forget about cross trainers and treadmills. They keep fat people fat and weak people weak. Find a hill and sprint it 6-10 times 3 times a week!

I did it on my own but having a partner helps. Nothing like a bit of competition!

Yeah good idea with setting up a plan before you go! and maybe change/improve your diet.. may give you more motivation to go

Also is it possible to go in the mornings to the gym? i know i much prefer to go before work- more energy and wakes me up.

Its my job that kinda fucks it up, im an apprentice roofer, I work half 7- half 4 each day and its a heavy lifting job, by the time im home im nackard, but if im at college (2 week blocks) I will go to the gym, not sure what to do but I do want to build myself up!

I'd personally just use a good quality protein shake and eat good, as your diet is the main factor to getting "big" / "Skinny" depending what people are aiming for. As much as the saying frustrates the shit out of me you are what you eat

If you're lifting heavy at work then you probably just need to sort your diet out. Or man up and get your ass to the gym

Just because you lift 'heavy' at work doesnt mean it has to promote growth. The body gets used to repetition so dont count on the day job aiding size.

Start a strength and conditioning programme.

Work is no excuse for not going to the gym, those are part time hours compared to what I work during busy periods. If you feel tired get more sleep and it is a sign from your body that you need to be eating more.

As for the creatine, take it AFTER your workout - before and it can actually decrease performance.

I do a manual job but it's done nothing for strength or size with me, and none of the other lads who work with me either. With most manual workers they look big because they are just fat lol.

Ive got a bit stronger, bit bigger, hasn't made a huge difference but im not fat, I see alot of skinny runts aswell who do manual jobs

Go to the gym and have a session with a personal trainer. Will show you what to do and the best way to do it. Method over madness.

Training regularly and progressively overloading my body is the easy part I find. It's eating well and enough that is the hard part. Roids will do fuck all if your diet's a mess.
