Signed.
If people keep going on saying bah waist of time ect ect then nothing will ever get done.
For the sake of 30seconds of your life it wouldn't hurt to sign it,the message will get across eventually.

Do you think that they don't already know that the public aren't happy about paying £1.30 a litre?

It already has years ago, the government obviously now, ie the PM's speach about it the other day.

And after the countless fuel protest things has it stopped them? Fuck no, this is one area that silly protests will not affect as it makes them £billions

People who sign things like this probably don't follow current affairs though.

Oh and the pm saying that he will revisit the idea of cutting tax......... o yeah few hours later he said he wont promise anything as its a delicate situation. Pm's are puppets to the oil tycoons who will never change and because england is so fucking useless and accepts stuff like this. Nothing will change.

After the "shortage" of oil the price went right down meaning petrol went down but now they just say theres a shortage and price goes up then petrol goes up so they make dick loads of money. 80p odd in tax per litre, a $1 rise per barrel means 1p more at the pump which mean £6 million profit. This rise will see a profit of an extra 14 million

Basic supply and demand. Demand is high as oil is a necessary item for survival so everyone has to buy it regardless of situation, means the demand is pretty much completely inelastic when price changes.
In laymans, they can charge as much as they like and there is nothing you can do about it

what would happen if, for example a supermarket, decided to sell the fuel at the lowest price possible, probably making only 1p a litre, if that, then this may drive a price war, driving prices down. because tax is all relative aint it? not fixed per litre?
so if retailer aint making any, government wont make any>

Garages dont make a lot anyway, we make 2p profit on fuel per litre. It's the same for every garage, apart from indipendant garages. Garages at supermarkets and such get told what the price has to be.

so the government has a fixed amount of tax per litre? say if tesco decided to sell petrol at cost +1p they would still lose money?

All I know is what we make and how we have to deal woth it, our garage makes more money selling cigs and magazines than it does on fuel, the refinery also have to have our 20k cleared in the bank before they send a tanker out. All that for 2p per litre profit.

There was on on the number 10 website and the government replied to it, it said something like:
"The fuel duty hasn't changed since 2007 where it was frozen at 50p per litre. The rising of fuel prices is due to the companies themselves and is out of the government's control"
although the fuel duty is more than that now so that must have been a while ago

Also I worked it out, if the price of petrol goes up 1p per litre, think about this:
- If you fill up a full tank every week, that's 50p a week
- 30 million cars on the road = £15,000,000 per week
- That's £780,000,000 a year

Don't forget mattant, the govt will not see exactly that much as the value of money, in an inflationary economy, will be lower at the end of the year...
