just been out to check my oil and coolant etc, and find this;



then checked the header tank to find it practically empty and under pressure. fuckin head gasket

weekend under the bonnet for me then

i wiped that of the oil cap!
perfect excuse to do the turbo conversion, except it will cost more than the £70 the hg will cost me

nope, just researching. want to know everything before i start and im still not sure i can be arsed.
was gonna get a new gasket and bolts tomorrow but wont know if the heads warped until its off. ideally want to get a compression and leak test done first though to make sure its defo the head gasket, though i cant see it being anything else

Doesnt look good, but the gf's 1.2 8v was caked and that had no issues whatsoever

er.. sorry to ruin your fun assuming its head gasket failure.. its the detergants in the oil going mustardy. 9 times outta 10 it'll just be condensation from the winter times or short journeys. or it'll be the water pump gasket seeping into into by the cam chain covers (Y)

I had about that with no head gasket failure on my 12v. Although I had plenty of coolant.

I did have a picture but I don't seem to be able to find it now

clean the cap and fill the header tank, see if it comes back etc.

im gonna get it check tomorrow, im guessing h/g because of the pressurised header tank. really hope it isnt.

fill the header tank with coolant, run the engine with the cap off and see if you get bubbles, if you do then theres pressure leaking from one of the cylinders and thats deffinatly head gasket. it could be that it was just low on water so the little water that was left on there was boiling so the pressure was high, look on the dipstik too, if thats creamy then your deffinatly getting water in the oil somewhere... cream round the filler cap is usually just condensation.

Do you do a lot of short journeys in it? It cant be used as a sign of the head gasket blown on a Z14XEP. The "Mayo" effect is down to the fact your engine had a plastic rocker cover cools quicker than the alloy head and therfore creates condensation inside the rocker cover. This effect is even more noticable when you only do short journeys. Top your coolant up and just keep an eye on the level for the next couple of weeks.

EDIT - The fact you have pressure in the coolant tank is a good sign - It should be!

yeah, mainly short journeys really. furthest i go is college which is 5 miles

everyone saying its condensation, are you completely ignoring the fact his coolant tank has emptied? and dont say thats normal too because coolant will stay in the tank for months, even years without needing topping up

My gfs corsa c has the same problem but theres alot more mayo on the cap than yours it used abit of water from summer to winter but not got any worse, no over heating, no missfire. although it does run a lil lumpy.

If it ain't broke don't fix it! just keep topping her up and save your pennys for a conversion... a little pressure in your coolant system ain't something to worry about its when it blows off when your undoing it and boiling hot water squirts everywhere you want to worry

oh yeah ive had that before air lock in my old saxo.
its not overheating at all, temp is no different than its ever been. it is bogging down at low revs though im just baffled this car confuses me.
