No jokes please, what's the minimum type of car that you would refer to as a 'fast car'?
Corsa XE? CTR? Evo? 911 Turbo?

in terms of bhp/tonne i'd say anything over 150bhp/tonne is pretty good.
''fast'' is subjective.
if you own a 1.2 corsa, you're going to think a focus st is fast.
if you own a 911 turbo, you're going to think the focus st is slow, or just normal.

There's nothing definitive. It's open to your own interpretation and that can only be based on your own experiences.

Fast could be broken into two areas. Top speed and acceleration.
For a car to be fast (toop speed wise) i'd say it has to break the 150 barrier at least.
Acceleration wise, anything sub 6 seconds to 60 suppose.
After fast you get really fast, and fucking quick.
However, its all relative to the person. There is no definitive scale.
Edit: What Ben and mwg said, but in a different way

entry level then, like an entry level headunit.
what would people consider, entry level performance.
i would say under 7secs to 60mph and over 140mph top speed.
so corsa xe, ctrs, corrado vr6 etc

I asked because I wanted individual opinions, I know there's not a check list to meet as such.

So if you have a Caterham or something that for some reason couldn't reach 150mph or do 60mph in under 7 seconds but could kick a LET Corsa's ass around a track, would that not be considered fast even though it's putting in better lap times than a 350bhp Corsa?

As I said, there are two areas of fast. Tight, twistie and good handling in the case of the Caterham, but then there's the likes of a big fat lardy Vectra VXR which will sit at more than 160 on the autobahn and munch the Caterham.

Anything sub 8sec to 60mph I'd consider as pretty quick.

All in the eyes of the beholder. I'd say my Volvo is quick, but others would say its slow.

i like people who say "it goes alright" or "pretty nippy for what it is"
these people will say it about pretty much anything that isn't a milk float, for example i've heard people saying it with 1.0 nissan micras, run of the mill transporter vans, and i've been in these cars.
I mean what do these people call slow? a broken car?
