First day of not smoking today, and started on the patches for a bit then try and and cut them down.
Anyone else gone this route?

I've quit a few times and never needed patches just stopped. As Conway says after the first week it's not so bad

Smoked too much when out over the weekend and my throat is sore so decided I am stopping today (well trying). Not smoking at work is easy its at home in the evening or at weekends I will struggle.

I suffer at work more than at home, dealing with suppliers who can be a pain in the arse is what drives me to smoke half the time.
I had quite before for about 4 weeks when I got hypnotized, but soon ended up back on them.

i stopped using patches and inhalator for about 6 months before i went on holiday last summer. started again when i was there though.
tried to quit again last weekend, only had 1 or 2 since but not really smoking during the day.

Pretty much what i done.
If you have any friends that smoke i would advise avoiding them for a week.
I just stayed in for the first week so i wasnt tempted, after that it was plain sailing.

I used these things called similar, they are basically a fag you don't light, drag as normal and they give nicotine.
Been about a month now, always want one, not started to notice any health benefits yet, hate the cravings, hate the fact I didn't want to quit, hate that I used smoking as a way to chill out and calm down.. Actually why did I quit ?
How I see it though, its been a month, a month longer than I'd ever stopped before, and each day is another day more than the last, so why waste it.

The worst thing is the smell.
Just remember that when you smoke you smell like that girl at school who had the bladder problem.

For me it was just putting somthing in my mouth thats the same size as a fag, I do it at work with pens. It removes the sparking up side of it and associates nicotine with something else. Patches then take away the symbolic side and slowly you ween off of it.

You shouldn't have to ween yourself off it though, cold turkey IMO is the only way.

the patch was like a comfort thing if you get me, if i forgot to put my patch on i paniced and thought about smoking all day
i was on the little patches which had as much nicotine in as half a fag released over 12 hours, nowhere near as much as youd take in by smoking 10-20 fags a day
