Just went to the BP I go to twice a week to fill up, light came on about 30 miles ago, decided to brim it, rarely do anymore. Car has a 41L tank....I just managed to put 47 litre's in it I have never been able to get more than 42/43 in before.

I mentioned it to the guy and he said they had recently been calibrated, but I can't work out how I could get an extra 6 litres on top of the litre or 2 that was still in there ?

Worth looking into further ? I have probably bought 300 litres there in the last 4 or 5 weeks, and potentially if every time I went there it was as out as it has been today then thats nearly £40 worth of fuel I bought but never recieved

Maybe worth getting a fuel can, stick a fiver in it and compare the actual volume to the claimed volume on the pump?

Either that or phone the council up Mike, the fact that it's bound to be the best part of a tenner more each time makes it worth the hassle.

Reckon its the council I've got my reciept and will give citroen a call to try and find out the exact size + any reserve tank etc. Its just the fact I have never managed anywhere near that before from completely empty.

Don't think so Matt, I remember you telling me and I went on a hunt to try and find a way to do it.

Isn't this to do with the temperature of the fuel in the pumps? The warmer it is the more it expands etc? You're actually getting less than you think as it cools in your tank

Very unusual for a pump be out, always get a few litres in the fuel lines and filler pipe

Temperature does have a little to do with it but not 6 litres worth. Mike, you car will have a 45 litre tank and the fillers can take up to 1 or 2 litres, I often get 47 litres in the MiTo

According to the handbook it has a 41 litre tank. I'll go by that. Plus in the 2 and a half years of owning it I have never even got 45 litres in it let alone 47

Take a Jerry can, weigh it, note that weight.

Fill it with 20 litres of fuel indicated.

Weigh it again. Subtract the tare weight of the can.

20 litres should weigh 14.74kg

If it weighs less than that, you've been had.

If you want to know exactly how much you bought, take the weight of fuel that you ended up with and multiply it by 1.357

That will give you the number of litres for that weight.

If it's any less then use it to burn down the petrol station.
