if planning on building a decent 1400s i can get steel crank..even though if went that far you wouldnt have a friendly road car. steel rods, pistons, valves, colsibro guides, double springs, spring platforms, steel caps, cams, verniers, headwork, clutches etc etc whatever you would need to build a top spec screaming engine tbh.

spec? you mean power? im hoping for around 185-190bhp with any luck. 195bhp would be awesome but still on hydraulic lifters so wont rev it over 7.5k or there abouts

yh sorry a meant power

theres a boy bill falconer u prob heard of does vauxhall tuning for rallly cars a few miles from me a was thinking of seeing what hes got to offer cause he builds engines at lyk 200bhp plus but there rally spec but a dont know wat would be like for road use. and 195bhp would be a ideal figure for me to try and reach has it been quite a expensive build so far or have u been lucky way some sneaky bargains

cost me about £4.5k with the ex manifold and system and rolling road too. got cams bit cheaper, but i dont all my own building so labour is fuck all or you could maybe add 700 or so for labour, porting etc.

bills pretty good tbf to him but when i rang up about his ex manifold he got snotty and imo an arse saying he doesnt deal with the boy racer crowd....except last time i checked a boy racer doesnt build a top spec small block. so put me off, i get most of my parts off martin bowyer now for all the engines i build, one of the best engine builders in the country imo.

170bhp seems a mega amount for a 1400 without going on tbs tbh...virtually impossible imho on a single tb. you would need to rev the tits off it so rods, pistons, lairy cams, headwork, maybe even valves, double springs etc, think the guys pulling your leg power wise. if im on bike carbs and running a pretty fruity spec 1600 and only looking at 190bhp or so then 170bhp from a 1400 without carbs or tbs i honestly cant see happening. martin bowyer is one of the countries best engine builders in the rally. rally x, tarmac scene imo and hes getting about 210bhp on a wet sumped 1600 or there abouts and think thats a 5figure engine too

as for martin hes located in hereford, but unless he knows you he can be a very difficult man to get hold of.

if have a known budget maybe we can suggest a few ideas but as warren said unless planning on racing it where cc is more important then id opt for the 1600 but would be better off on the 1600 bottom end.
