What I don't understand is how you can have the same car go up a 1/4 mile strip but get completely conflicting times!

You could go up the strip say 5 times and get a average 1/4 of 15.7 @ 94mph with 16" alloys

Then go up 5 times with 14" alloys and get an average 1/4 of 15.2 @ 84mph

What I don't get is that with the smaller wheels the acceleration is greater so you cover the 1/4 mile distance over a quicker time but at the end your terminal speed is lower than when you cover it with the same power but with 16" alloys and with a slower 1/4 mile time.

Anyway. I went to Santa Pod twice both times with the same engine power. The first time I went with my 16" wheels on and had 5 runs, all of which were between 15.7 secs or 15.9secs and all terminal speeds were either 93mph or 94mph. The next time I went I put my original 14" alloys back on and my 1/4 mile times were significantly quicker all between 15.2secs and 15.4secs but what I don't get is why my terminal speeps were quite a bit slower than before even though my 1/4 mile times were quicker. All of these terminal speeds were either 84mph or 85mph.

I would of thought if you had a faster 1/4 mile time that would mean you were accelerating faster and in turn would be gaining speed faster and in turn would give you a higher terminal speed. I can't think of any logical reason why my terminal speed is lower but my 1/4 mile time is faster!

With 14's it is sheer acceleration thats giving you the best times, but are running out of effective speed. Try using 15's to get a mix of both the qualities of each wheel size.

ok... I think its a combination of above... but more or less the fact that you are running quicker on the track hence not achieving a higher speed because you are quicker to complete your run.

I think that is correct.

nah.. because your acceleration is quicker, so you finish the run before you hit the higher speeds (90mph+)

hard to get your head round it, I dont even understand it myself

If that was the case, wouldn't Skyline's that do 1/4's in say 12.5secs have a terminal of about 35mph?

Can't be right. I cannot think of any logical solution to this

Saying that I was getting .2 and .3 reaction times with my 16's on and couldn't manage a reaction time better than .7 and .8 with the 14's. Probably down to the fact that I have very good tyres on the 16's and shitty standard tyres on the 14's.
