Kerry's mom has took her 1.0 C for a service and MOT today at an independent garage who i've used myself, and it came to 600....

mot 50
parts service 50
labour 75
springs x2 26.50 = 57
springs x2 40= 80
link rods x2 10= 20
lambda sensor 50
labour 100
w/s consumables 20
vat 100

Thats roughly the prices they wrote down for her.

Is it just me or is that stupidly high?

mot is priced high but the labour for the springs, lambda etc seems reasonable

service parts for £50 - depends on what - if just oil/filter, then high, if included plugs and other filters, then fine.

Labour - 75 to service is a bit high - most places are service for 100 but then again, depends on whats changed in service

Part prices - seem reasonable enough,

Labour of 100 for 4 springs and 2 link rods seems ok

VAT - cant change that

In all, not that bad IMO. Obviously had you done the work yourself, it would have been 300 + MOT

If it causes the emissions to be out.

I would probably be annoyed at not having been asked, but the prices are not ridiculous and the work needed doing.

They asked about springs but not the lamda, emission sheet said pass but that might of been after it was fixed and tbf light was on

Oh and service did all filters etc
Felt proper bad for her

Thing is, if she hadn't have authorised the work, she would still needed to pay for some of the labour and the car wouldn't be fixed, and you would have a car that needs work to deal with.

Has she already paid?

Yes

If you take away cost of springs, lamda, link rods and labour it's not too bad

I thought it was only about £40 for a set of springs not £140

Make sure you get all the old parts back, them claiming it needs four springs seems very suspicious

Knocks and bangs are usually bottom ball joint or bushes to do with the wishbones being worn, strut top mounts etc. If she does do ahead with it I'd definetely ask for the old parts back, if they refuse there's obviously something fishy going on.

Yeah springs break for fun on C's, fronts and rears. Anti-roll links are common too.

Probably should have called her first but its not road-worthy without the bits doing as long as you trust the garage.

I've used them previously and they've been spot on, but it was for smaller things, wheel bearing etc

Yeah timing chains are common.
Motor factors supply a kit which contains GM parts for the other side of £100.
Labour all depends, a boy i know takes £70 to do a timing chain and its usually a 2/3 hour turnaround.
