"If" it hit £2 a litre the country would come to a standstill and we'd end up in a worse situation than we are in at the moment.

Tells you the prices

I predict a protest if it reaches 2 quid a litre.

Speaking in a newspaper interview, the former oil trader said that in a worst-case scenario where terrorists take advantage of the crises by attacking tankers and reserves, then prices could even move towards $250 a barrel. This would leave UK motorists facing prices at the pumps of around £2.03.

Terrorists attacking tankers and reserves? If it did happen I doubt it would last long at all

It will get there at some point.

There will be no protests of any meaningful form.

I suspect if it reaches £2.00 a litre we shall all bend over and take it like the joke of a nation we are.

In fact I might make a post now to say petrol could reach £5/litre, just so I can quote it in 2016.

I think when it gets that high people would just give up on petrol and manufacturers would bring out cars on alternate fuels we've been hearing so much about but never seen

Yeah, but burning petrol is fine because Jermey Clarkson says it's cool and global warming doesn't exist.

What's that going to achieve? The problems are far more than taxation. Shame The Sun is too short-sighted to report that.

My point was, it's all relative to the rest of the economy and that figure, like all of these headline quotes, is out of context unless you look at the wider picture.

There is still no incentive to adopt alternative vehicles until they become a proper alternative. Something which they currently are not. For all it's moaning, the country still tolerates current prices and will continue to do so. I've not met anyone who has actually changed their transportation habits because of fuel prices with any long term commitment in any major way.

Perhaps they've bought a more frugal car, but reponding in this way is hardly a different paradigm.

It's actually enabled me to buy a less frugal car, because it was cheaper to buy. Something which I hope continues.

He's wrong then, it does exist, it's just not caused by motorists.

I think people need to get proper hydrogen cars designed not stupid battery shit, as the materials for batteries WILL run out, but hydrogen can never ever run out.
like so....
H2O >(electrolyze) H2 + 0
H2 (burn) > H2O(water again)
Repeat forever....

You have to remember though that 10 years ago yes petrol was half the price, but then the MPG of cars were a lot lower (alright not half but still), in 5 years time I have no doubt we'll be seeing cars doing 100+MPG

Also it doesn't matter whether it's 10p a litre or £10 a litre, people will always moan, always have
