Naff? In what way?
If you don't mind the cost they're brilliant (imo). Far, far better than carrying a laptop about. Perhaps look into some of the android options though.

Get a second hand iPad 1. Should get one for £250. No real need to pay the extra for an iPad 2.

What John said tbh.
I can't justify one because although I want it I don't "need" it and thus it's just an expensive toy

what would you need one for? am i missing something here? it appeals to me because purely because it's compact and its wifi so can use it anywhere in the house without the need for a desk

Depends if you actually need a proper OS, if you solely browse the internet (only sites without flash) and don't need a keyboard it's good.

I had a play on one of these the other day when I was in Best Buy, just reminded me of a giant version of my iPhone!
They are quite nice if you are into your gadgets, but as it's Apple it obviously comes at a premium price!
I think from what I remember they have folding covers for the screen so you don't scratch it etc (you can choose different colours too ).

Same. I wouldn't be without mine now. You don't realise how much of a ball ache using a laptio is and I'm reminded of it everytime I have to get the laptop out to download a film or something.
There isn't a day that goes by I dont use mine and I find myself taking it with me everywhere.
I'd say the iPad 2 is worth it just for the fact that my mate bought his iPad 1 round the other day and I couldn't believe how fat it was
EDIT: Plus white is better than black

What he said. As much as I love my iPad I don't think its the iPad I like, its the tablet form factor.
I'd probably be just as happy with anything that wasn't laptop shaped.
