What do you guys usually wear for interviews? Obviously smart clothes is necessary but regarding colours? I have a white shirt and black tie but I figured this would be too "funeral" looking or w/e. Do you always wear a jacket too?

Aside from experience/qualifications etc. I would more likely consider you for a job at my company if you made the effort to wear a shirt and tie rather than turning up "smart casual" or just casual.

I wouldn't expect you to wear a shirt and tie if you were on the road fixing computers and whatever obviously, but to me the shirt and tie thing shows me that you are willing to make an effort.

Professional job - shirt, tie, jacket. Bit of colour needed though so funeral gear is out.

If you would usually be expected to turn up to work in shirt/tie then wear it to the interview.

The only interview that I didn't turn up it suit/tie was as a sailing/windsurfing instructor and that was only because They'd asked me to teach a session as part of the interview - wore my best board shorts and rash vest

If in doubt, wear a suit. I've wondered about this before though as a few of the companies I want to work for say in the recruitment blurb that they're casual and they don't do suits. I wonder if you turn up a suit whether it'll look like you haven't done your research...

Colours are of no consequence really. First impressions, the fact you've made an effort and actually having pride in your own appearance are what matters.

I wore black trousers, a black shirt and a black tie with a silver stripe to the interview for the job I have just now.
