Coupé is costing a bomb to run due to my heavy right foot and only ever nipping around town so it's never getting about 25-27mpg.
Few basics.
I'm 21
3NCB
Around £5,500-£6000
Turbo diesel
Insurance isn't a huge issue.
Been looking mainly at Astra CDTi 150's but they're all moon milers for less than £6k
Open to any options!

A diesel won't be eocnomical round town though, low 40's at the most.

Small engines are better if you mainly do town driving, petrol or diesel. The bigger diesels only really come into their own piling up motorway miles where they are barely ticking over.

If you are always sat in traffic get a Hybrid as it will use DC under 30mph..
Also small french diesels are brilliant these days.

Even that's a bit of a con as when the DC is used up the engine kicks in and drink fuel because it's moving the car and charging the battery!

I'd look to get an GolfA3 2.0 TDi (PD140)mine used to do 60mpg without even trying and did 50's around town.
Also quite mapable and much nicer to drive than the 1.9's which will only be 115bhp.
I would say get an Astra 1.9 CDTI 150 but they are hit and miss where gearboxes are concerned and not worth the risk IMO.

I've never got over 40 mpg about town in a diesel and I've had a few of them, mostly bigger engined though. The 1.3cdti was a bit better.

I'm mostly stop start in the week commuting and I'm seeing an average of nearly 54mpg over my last two fill ups.
Small diesels FTW.

get a remap on the cupra tdi and your looking at 200bhp and loads of torque
if i decided i want to get a diesel i would be looking at the ibiza cupra tdi and audi a3
