ok so i've been looking at vx220's for a while now and there are quite a few that come up as accident repaired.

i originally looked at the n/a's but the turbo's seem so much better but are obviously quite a bit more expensive.

i suppose it all depends on how the repair has been done and a good inspection would be needed but if all's well and good would you buy one?

if not, why?

If I could tell that the repair had been done properly then I wouldn't have any problems with buying one!

Remember that there are lots of cars out there that have had much worse damage and not been recorded!

Have done it and would do it again.

Just give it more attention when you look anround it and look more thouroughly st everything, If you see anything suspect then walk away.

You can save quite a bit of money doing this, Just got to be more alert when you are looking.

I would buy one to use it without worrying...

However, I would worry about the resale value / effort of selling it on.

therefore, if you're thinking of buying one to use for a few years and thrash - then yes!

If you're thinking of getting one for a few months to then sell again then no.

VX220's are written off so easily as most will want to replace the clams if there cracked and there not cheap.

Easy repairs though. So buying one should be fine. But check sub frames etc as there not great in a crash.

I think you should look around it (without knowing where it has been hit), and see if you can spot it. Then ask the owner about it.

Im in the same boat im looking at them at the mo, going for a turbo myself, however as tempting as a cat C or D might be, you have to bare in mind that these cars are different to most, there chassis are different and depending on the level of damage it could cause issues down the line, im going to stay clear of the cat C & D's myself.

I was going to say this. Didn't Adam's turbo on here get written off without THAT much damage, but because it was the clam it was fucked? Or am I way off I'd do it if the repairs were done correctly.

Tom will tell you what Graeme said. Slight tap and needs a whole clam = Write off.

Resale value is fine, you buy lower, sell lower. It wont make money, but its a car so likelyness of that is rare unless you are Novagte.

Do it.

Was going to say they will be written off so easy cause a small tap and the fibreglass will crack and it means replaceing the full clam which is expensive and a struggle to fit. But for someone to buy and get parts at a discount and have no labour to pay will be fine.

My 04 Corsa C SRi 1.8 stood me at £2k all repaired in 2009, sold it a year later for £3700

What was that car program about buying damaged cars and repairing them?

They did a vx220 in one episode, damage didnt look alot but it cost them ALOT to put right. Meaning it wouldnt take much to write one off
