Randomly watching the Alan Carr show the other night that Scientist guy was on saying that they can actually proove within a 10th of a second how long ago the earth was created (10 Million to the power of 10 years ago or something).
Therefore actually prooving the bible, creation, Adam and Eve etc is a load of bullshit.
Does anybody else feel very niaive to have believed in this when they were younger?
I don't think its right that you get taught Religious Eduction in school and told to believe all this made up BS from a early age.

It's all a load of old bollocks TBH.
There are reasons why things happen which 9 times out of 10 can be explained scientifically, I don't think there is a divine intervention or supreme being that determines your destiny - only you can control what you do in your life.

Thing is, you believing what that scientist is telling you is no different than someone else believing in religion.
We still don't know everything we need to know about our universe and a lot of our calculations are based on theory and assumptions.
People could look back in 1000 years and laugh at half the stuff we believed to be true.
Infact, I'm sure I read an article the other day, which completely tested our current thoughts about our assumed age of the universe. Something about a Quaser being found so deep in space, that the big bang theory wouldn't have tied up with our age predictions.

Science can be proven to a certain extent. Religion cannot be proven. at all.
(I do however agree with you on the theoretical side of it, that a lot of what Hawkings, and the rest of them believe is theoretical physics, and could all be completely wrong, whereas it's stated as hard fact. We laugh at people for them thinking the earth was flat 1,000 years ago, who knows whether we'll be derided the same by future generataions)

Yeah I agree. Religion is a load of man made nonsense.
But my point is in regards to the smugness / high horse effect of the OP - saying 'haha, stupid people that believe in religion, I believe in everything scientific I read' ...
You get taught scientific things, which you then take on as fact and pass off as fact.
For example, I was taught at school, that Pluto was a planet. If anyone had argued with me that it was infact not a planet, I would've called them stupid. However, they re classed Pluto and it is now no longer classed as a planet. School kids today, will not grow up believing the facts that we grew up believing.
My whole point is, what we believe is based on what we were taught. In the same way people who were taught religion, knew nothing else as fact.
Ultimately most scientific findings, even ones we prove are still theoretical / assumptions in most cases. General relativity, the theory of why we stick to the ground and the planets revolve around the sun falls apart when applied to a small scale such as quantum mechanics.
We have theories of holographic universes (that really is BS), multiple universes, multiple dimensions, etc. We haven't proven this - we still don't know either way.
In a similar way, we still don't know how the universe was started - we have our theories and therefore based on those theories, we can use techniques to guess the age - we believe in 'The Big Bang' and it being 13.9 billion years old, but we could end up looking as dumb as people who thought the world was flat.

We can tell it's at least as old as, it could be older.
People didn't actually believe the world was flat did they, is that not a common myth?
The majority of people don't understand science or religion.

We can proove that the world started millions of years before the bible said it did, its not like were a day/year out, were talking about a timeframe big enough for it not to be wrong.
People can choose not to believe it but the truth remains that the bible isn't worth the paper its written on.

The great thing about science is that there's no such thing as something being scientifically proven - it's all theoretical and up for debate. You'll find that scientists are always striving to find something new or perfect something. Religion on the other hand is set in stone, no debate, nothing. That seems quite boring to me and also quite dangerous.
