IB5 is a good box.

Best suited with the RS1800

Wish I'd kept that car.

if the linkage had broke then surely every gear would've been impossible to engage from the start?

if it was your box the selection would feel normal, just would have problems engaging gears etc

usually caused by the synchro rings wearing, or the end of the input shaft breaking up causing metal shards to circulate round the bearings

of course its entirely possible you have a problem with 1st gear synchro AND a linkage issue, but i find it highly unlikely as it all happened at the same time.

the vague "stirring porridge" will be down to your linkage or gearstick shaft. The only thing inside the gearbox that could cause this is the H gate selector, if it came loose or broke, but i doubt that very much never heard of that happening

everyone bums riggers on there so i imagine he must have/had some decent motors.

steve - stirring porridge is exactly what it felt like, then i lost 1st, then 3rd, now stuck in 5th and won't come out for love nor money.

i just don't think i can be bothered to fix it tbh too much effort for little/no financial reward.

i can completely understand scrapping the car if it was gearbox failure, but silly if its just linkage which it sounds like it is

for someone mechanically minded like you, yes. for someone that manages to cross thread the most important screws all the time like me, no

anyway, i think my dads mates going to have a look at it over the weekend for me. i could always keep it in the garage, buy another car and just turn the puma into a track car or something fun as it doesn't owe me anything really.

tbh even if you take it to a garage with a 2nd hand part you are talking maybe 60 quid to replace.

if i was you, id take to a local mechanic, get him to look at it will take him seconds to see if its linkage or not.

if it is, buy 2nd hand linkage and get him to fit it, could do it all for a ton imo
