They shouldn't need to be armed before you take them out tbh. They are trespassing on your property

TBH you can't really do fuck all yet, just have to offer them a sandwich before they go or you will get done for gross negligence to human rights

How would you define proportionate?
If they're carrying lube and wearing Akabusi-style dungarees?

if i hurd noise down stairs in my house, i wouldnt hesitage to defend me gf and son, ive bought and payed for my house so, if some1 kicks a door in and enters. he could try hurt my family. so i would use any force nessasary to make sure they laid down and didnt get up again.
cos the thing with little radgys now, u here them fucking about outside ya house or something like that and tell them to go fuck off away from your house, then next thing u know they have stuck a house brick through ya car window. so if u fuck them up enough they wont come back.

Great news.
Tbh, if some cunt broke into my house. I'd do what it took to defend my wife and child.

It still seems such a grey area to me though. Am I right in thinking you can use a weapon that they bring in against them but if you have your own weapon ready, as I know many do, you are in trouble?
Politicians don't help by making pleasing soundbites about being able to protect your home whilst people are still being arrested for doing exactly that.

It's also whether you've just defended yourself or if you inflicted further injury after the threat has gone.

Not 100% sure but it can depend on where you are in you house, eg upstairs in your bedroom and that, bit of a minefield really.

The laws have changed recently or are changing to encourage people to defend their homes.

Did you not read the article?
And for all those saying they can't believe they arrested the bloke. Of course they arrested him at the end of the day he still stabbed someone and a criminal investigation will have to be carried out to determine it was definitely self defence. If you could stab anyone who you claim broke into your house with out any consequence then there'd be chaos.
