I've been really annoyed with the speed im getting recently, I've got no downloading going on in the background and it wont even play a youtube video without having to load every 5 seconds!
Did a quick test to find this:
I can't complain as such because they have done the BB for free for the last two years but this is probs why, saying that it's been fine up to the last couple of months (3-4mb). If I ring and complain can they do anything?
Been with o2 for two years now but its due to end this month. Do o2 throttle? Who's best to go with?

Do you have a mac which you could test the speed on?

Was it faster before?
If so, you might have:
- faulty line (get BT to check/come out)
- faulty modem cables
- faulty modem

I'm pretty sure I posted a speed of 3mb+ on the last 'BB speed' thread on here. Still crap but it think 4mb is about the best I can get round here.

This was in December, bottom one was after unplugging the sky box phone line which has been unplugged since.

I reckon it's probably an issue to do with the phone line rather than ISP.
Does plugging in the modem cable/ADSL filter into the master socket make any difference (i.e. unscrew the fascia and you'll see the master socket inside)?

I'll try this tomorrow and report back.

Same here when I was on O2. Was ever since they ripped up the road though and I think they lengthened the line coz my ping went up and stayed up ever since.

I've contacted O2 and they said:
Your line can get speeds of up to 4 meg. Your router has been connecting
to our server with a speed of 1 meg. - What ever this means?
Please follow the steps below to improve your broadband speed:
- plug your router in the BT master socket to ensure that there's no disturbance on your BT line
- remove additional devices if connected to the phone line
- change your filters, check for any loose connections and don't connect using any extension cables
- don't keep any electronic devices close to your router such as radio or microwave.
- delete the temporary internet files, cookies and cache.
Well, I live in a new build and we don't have a master socket, just one of these new box's on the wall outside. I'm not using an extension and I've checked the filters, loose connections and tried a different wall socket as well as resetting the box. Not that this matters as none of this has changed since I was getting 3x the speed.
I've also just done a complete clean install of Windows 7 as was fed up of keep fixing Vista every week.
These are the stats from my router connected via ethernet cable to the laptop this evening, mean anything to anyone?

When I finished college earlier this year and found myself home a bit more during the day my Internet was shit, even dropping most of the time. Rang BT who insisted it was a fault with my line.
When I questioned why this fault only appeared to show itself during the hours of 9-5 on a weekday it miraculously fixed itself and I have the same speed all the time

O2 called me yesterday regarding my complaint.
The 'reset' my line and then asked me to do a test on speedtest.net. It showed just under 3mb, which whilst not great is much better than the above.
She said they have a obligation to provide a minimum of 2mb on my line and to monitor it and call them again if it ever goes back below this.
Within an hour its back at less than 1mb.

Are you using your own router instead of the shit O2 supplied one?
Go to http://bit.ly/qJ64Tc if so - it's a page on the O2 website which tells you what settings to use on your router depending on the package you are using.
If you are using their router I strongly suggest not using it, and instead buying your own one. I have been using a Netgear DGN1000 when we were with O2 broadband and it's been great on it.

Yeah using the Wireless Box II router that O2 supplied. I'll have a look into that router and those settings when I get in tonight.
Would that make a difference when connected via ethernet, as the speed doesn't change at all between a wireless connection and plugging into the router?

Those stats you posted above are to do with the connection between your router and O2, how you connect to the router (wireless or ethernet) won't affect the sync speed.
Those Thomson routers are really shite TBH, I bet if you use a different router you'll get a better connection speed.

My 12 month contract is up on 3rd September. Don't know what to do now, buy a new router and stay with O2 or just go with someone else.
I was adamant on leaving but seems to be the same issues with all the providers.

I would get a new router first of all, it'll only cost you about £30 or so and if you still want to go with someone else you will be able to use it with the new ISP too.
