Good article, mainly because I agree with it all, tablets are a manufactured by apple niche.

I do not like tablets, and agree with most of the article, and that it's an apple invention that's not really needed, but marketted amazingly well, as they do...

However...

He's reviewing the iPad as an actual practical piece of kit. It's not. It's used by 99% of it's owners for internet browsing, playing .mov files apps. Apps that they're used to on their overpriced mobile phones, and therefore will happily pay another £1.39 or whatever for on their slightly bigger screened iPad.

For what people use it for, it's perfect. And therefore will keep selling in it's millions.

If you want something you can actually do things on, get a netbook or a laptop

I still go to my desktop if I need to actually do anything productive, can't get on with a crappy touchpad.

The main reason I have an n97mini now is that it had a qwerty keyboard, and not just a touchscreen. I'm up for a new phone in november and would love something with a keyboard again. I really don't like 100% touch stuff!

Meh, I think my iPad is fantastic. I use it as a timewasting device errr all the time. Using a laptop in bed is lame, but I can happily use the ipad in the morning/evenings, play music at the same time, browse the net.

Could do that on my phone but you can't look at a tiny screen for long.

I use mine for work, works well for my requirements.

It has key use's in the business world imo.

Last week i spent 12 hours in one day travelling across Europe, battery only used 40% all day and that included doing work (design and project planning, emails, browsing and i watched a film)

Has replaced my laptop for work on the move.

Its a gadget. Most gadgets are pointless. But then you buy them because you want them and because you can. I want one, but until I have a spare few hundred knocking about I wont be getting one. I'm a sucker for toys/gadgets.

was all amazed at the guys ipad2 in the office, running autocad and scrolling through drawings, i was like wow.

then i slowly realised there was no point of it, not when you have a pc easily thats easy to access.

its like eating something with a little spoon when you already have a big spoon

Be good to take that iPad out to a site meeting with AutoCAD drawings on I guess. Easier than standing there holding a laptop in the middle of a building site.

I like my ipad2, in fact I was never going to buy one I just sort of did. Perfect for messing about on internet whilst in the shithouse or in bed, doubles up as an e-book reader as well.

I'll buy the iPhone if it's good and I'll also buy an iPad3 if it's got a decent screen.

I get lots of work done, for drawing site plans, saving them in evernote and picking up mails at site its spot on.

Various apps have made it excellent for various roles within our company

Its interesting to see how its becoming more and more a business tool as well.

i.e. Airlines looking to use it with cabin crew to get rid of the paper flight listings etc. This is the perfect example of where it comes into its own. Yes there are other systems that 'could' be used but not many that can get anywhere close to the cost to implement combined with the ease of use.

deffo, we used to sell surveillance systems with client PC's / Laptops

We now sell them with iPads, the system users get an iPad that they can watch there cameras on while at the office and anywhere else in the world, the battery lasts all week, it has the cool factor.

Our sales guys use them to demo systems and presentations.

As i said for me being able to do a site plan, write up and then sync with evernote back to the office and the guys there can pick up my documents, i also use it for web design on the go, loads of things.

People with an iPad look up noteshelf
