so my car is a fabia vrs mk1

i bought brembo's for it, very similar to those on cupra r (almost identical). the guy that refurbed them sold them with ebc grooved/drilled discs. i then got ds-2500's

gone through 3x sets of pads (£120 a pair) in 4,000 miles and now ive noticied there's cracks in the disc

after heavy braking (140mph -> 0mph) or lots of 80mph -> 40mph it starts knocking (rotationally), almost like it has warped discs... but if u brake gently for a while and bed them in it fixes itself and brakes/drives normally

cud this be maybe warping once hot, but fine when warm? or what?

new set of pads being fitted this week but ideally want to get some discs too but dunno what ones to get. dont like the idea of plain discs, they look boring, but also want something that is not gunna do this again.

hm, thing is after i done my bedford track day and was HARD on the brakes, it took like a week for the brakes to not knock anymore, would that make sense?

how can i stop this from happening again with new discs? are there any types of discs that are better to prevent it etc?

yeh i try and never leave handbrake on, always try to roll towards lights rather than stopping etc. im careful but its still happened

but why do i need new discs if they return to normal after a bit? then after one hard braking session they fucked again

My discs used to do it on my puma on track, but not under normal driving. You could physically see the outline of the pad imprinted on the discs

discs can warp, but as already said leaving foot on the brakes after heavy braking not allowing the disc to cool evenly and leaving uneven spots on the pad face also causes it, id replace both and also drive a bit less like a penis and you may also get more than 3 sets of pads in 4k miles

Plenty of experts would disagree a normal eg, road disc wont warp, these are people that measure hundreds of discs with 'warping' complaints and have never found a warped one yet . It's a myth, and is almost always caused by pad deposits

Me either.

And 3 sets in 4k is stupid. You must be doing somehing wrong.

And you get away lightly, my pads cost £220 and they are ds2500 and I have had them on the car 10k.

You must drive around constantly on the brakes like most annoying Merc drivers.

You must drive like an absolute cock to do that many pads in 4k

My friends MR2 Race car has done about 15 15min races, plus 5 20min qualifying and about 4 test days and the pads are still fine.

I've seen warped discs, but on a car where the disc wasn't sitting true on the hub because it was chipped, so every revolution it got hot on the proud bit.

But yeah, special case.

Ahh so it's hard braking, like to a stop, then leaving foot on the brakes? I need new brakes again then

I've done 1 track day at Croft, probably a good 4 hours on track. I have cheap disc's and mintex pads.

Is this happening on a driveway? If so get the hose out to cool them off.
