Surely with two calipers you get twice the braking force.

The Maybach has two calipers in the front.

i notice many new performance cars have two calipers on the rear disc, separate one for handbrake i think.

looks like they have used that type of mount to put an extra one on the front.

brakes are simple things, you would just need an extra hose and maybe more fluid/master cylinder.

i reckon the point of it would be.......more brakes

Looks like an 8 piston on the right and a 6 piston on the left..

Just count the amount of curves where each piston would be.

What would heat build up be like with 2 calipers I wonder?

Normally you've got almost a full rotation to cool down, there you've got almost none then half a rotation.

you could argue the brakes wont be applied for the same length of time as a single caliper set up, so that could prevent them from overheating
