Nobody interested in this? What if stuck an Apple badge on it?
Developer preview is up for legitimate download, need to stick it on something when I get home.

Installed it on a VM box now, you can sync your account with a Windows Live ID. Neat idea, I don't have one though

Finally got it on my laptop.
Metro interface pissed me off straight away, looks like 7 under that though, only OS on the laptop now so I'll get aquainted.

Can totally see it working on a tablet though.
ARM powered, iPadish size with amazing battery life would be the absolute business, proper iPad competitor imo.

Win8 now supports ARM and Google and Intel have made some sort of deal to bring greater compatibility to x86 for android... Suppose its good for consumers!

Ok, so i went to install it on vmware player... It doesn't install, come up with a sad face and some error. I found out its not compatible, nor is it compatible with any Microsoft visualisation product (lol) - apparently it works with virtual-box which i am download now.

Just installed this via virtualbox.
Really liking it at the moment.
Can't wait to have a shot of it on a tablet though. It would be incredible.

what what i gather metro is the underneath, the traditional 7 interface is actually running under metro as an 'app' virtually

Compared to?
Haven't installed this but i'm not conviced that metro interface will work on a desktop system. As John said, on a tablet i think it'll be amazing and a serious contender to iOS/Android.
Time will tell though, certainly i'll wait 'til a beta is out as this preview is missing a fair chunk of what will be included in the final product.

i dont think it will stay as is, these windows releases tend to be like concept cars, widly over the top and different then the end product tends to get simplified to usual expectations.
I remember when vista was at this sort of stage and the preview build was suggesting there would no longer exist drives and drive letters

Surely you must be comparing it to something otherwise it'd suggest that you think all OS's are dull? But just to be clear, you think >THIS< (Windows 8 Metro) is dull?
