Right, my misses has just told me in her English assignment she is not aloud to use 'you're', she has to put down 'you are'. WTF? Her english teacher has told her this. If she puts 'you're' she'll get marked down?!

Anyone shed any light?

Probably so she differentiates correctly between you're and your.

Contractions are a major weak point for a lot of people so avoiding them is a good exam technique.

Could also be that the teacher wants a formal tone as well. Although it's more likely to be that the class on the whole are shit at English and this is an approach to improving them.

If she's not aloud then she's not aloud! Better just do as the teacher says, wouldn't want any near misses for your misses.

We've always been told in uni not to use abbreviations in essay etc, so it's maybe to prepare her for much more formal higher level assessments?
