If I were given total power, I could very easily engineer a nation in which coffee would become a huge social problem - a nation in which young people would binge-drink coffee every Friday and Saturday night and then rampage around town centres being anti-social, getting into fights and having unprotected sex in random one-night stands.
I would restrict access to coffee, thus immediately giving it highly desirable forbidden-fruit status. Then I would issue lots of dire warnings about the dangerously disinhibiting effects of coffee.

I maintain that being drunk is as much down to the placebo effect of "oh, i'm drinking, I must be drunk" as it is to the actual effects of alcohol.
I got someone absolutly pissed, staggering, slurring, falling over, aggression followed by overly affectionate and all I'd been giving them was Kaliber non-alcohol beer in pint glasses. They had 5/6 pints of the stuff and acted like a cock!!

I disagree.
I do think however that some people should just not be allowed to drink fullstop. I like drinking, its one of the few things Im good at

It's not though is it. The media, and the government want to make people think that EVERYONE EVERYWHERE who drinks and gets drunk then goes and starts a fight, and fucks anything that walks.
That's a load of horse shit. The vast majority of people go out, get pissed, then go home without any complications.
EDIT : (I may not of read the full article before posting that....) However, the placebo effect is bullshit...

How can you disagree when I follow it with a statement backing up what I think.
I'm happy for you to disprove it but the person drinking the non-alcoholic drink has to be unaware that its non-alcoholic

wasn't aimed at you Jonny sorry, more at Matt but I started writing the reply before I knew you had posted.
I'd say the guy is relatively normal, 3-4pints and he'd start to show signs of being drunk, 5-6 and He'd definitely be drunk.

I'd like someone to try that on me, the only people I can see it working on are the sort of people that try and kid on they are drinking but actually miss out rounds or dispose of the drink otherwise.
Alcohol has a physical effect, surely a normal person would know.

I strongly disagree with this, Rich. As I'm the exact opposite. In my mind I'm perfectly sober when I'm being held up at the bar

She talks a bit of sense.
The campaigns are misguided, that is correct. And that alcohol doesn't cause the problems by its chemical effects.
I don't get violent when I'm pissed, and the people I know who do are can actually be just as much of a nightmare when they're sober. It just isn't as obvious.

The placebo would only work on idiots.
Not drinking in a pub is shit as is drinking but not getting drunk.
