After getting the alloys off Ebay (brand new 2009 STi Alloys with Brand new tyres for £339) last Friday

I thought I'll use these as winter wheels, but I want to have a different colour.
I'm looking at Pepermint green as those are the cans of spray they had enough of in a colour I liked
This is my DIY thread on how to change their colour. I'll update as the job progresses.
TOOLS/Materials needed:
120grade wet n dry sand paper, already worn down.
wet/dry sanding pads, already worn down.
degreaser & brake cleaner
etch primer
spray paint
clear lacquer
low tac masking tape
news paper
MONDAY..
The alloys had the tyres removed today
I've cleaned, sanded and de greased. Dried off and first job is to etch prime the alloys.

once dry I taped up the parts I don't want to get spray on..

I've just done the insides this evening and ran out of paint.. so this will allow the inners to dry off before I etch prime the frace of the alloys tomorrow. Also I felt a bit funny with the fumes

TUESDAY..
Got another can of etch primer and the faces sprayed up tonight....

WEDNESDAY.. (today)
1st coat of the green went on this evening on the back part of the rim.
one can is 300ml.. I've used about 1.5 cans to to all 4 alloys on the inside and the back rim of the face.... just to make sure it gets coated up well.

I've put the alloys on an upturned bucket with a piece of card on it, so I can easily rotate the wheel round to spray it.
Plan for tomorrow is to 2nd coat the green I've done tonight, then before its full dry give a spray of the clear coat laquer, so it will fuse to the green paint and dry hard before I start spraying the face of the alloys.
I'll update as I do a bit more.

save wasting paint on the inside.. also the inner part still had the original bar code and info stamped on it.. so didn't want to get spray over them
the centre I didn't want to put a load of paint over it when its not seen

Looks like it's coming along well, the colour will look mint against the white.
Going to price up getting my s spokes painted violet for winter.
Edited because its early and my spelling was terrible.

I had THE WHEEL SPECIALIST do the wifes car.. proper job as they blast off and poweder cot them, but at £240 I couldn't justify it on these 17", they were new so didn't need blasting.
the etch primer and colour are all done by rattle can
btw.. its not the wheels on the car I'm doing (in the pic above) they're the 19" Prodrive GT2 alloys
still on the car

I managed to spray outside late this afternoon and got the 2nd and final coat on the inside part of the rim, then left it about 40mins and then 1st coat of lacquer on the inner part too. Hope to get a 2nd and final lacquer coat on the inside rim tomorrow.
Then it'll be the waiting game till the other cans of signal green come in.
The plan will be to give three coats to the main face of the alloys, then two/three coats of lacquer to give them plenty of protection.

I brought them back in the garage to harden off.. left a fan heater on just to warm the air.. to help aid drying
