As most are aware the MOT is changing again in january and theres been random speculation as to what is included in the new test - The proposed (and most likely actual) MOT inspection manual for 2012 id on the DFT website
Basically everything with a Bold line down the edge is new - although some bits that are new seem to have been missed..

"with engine running, put steering from lock to lock and make sure steering lock doesn't engage"
I fucking would have thought the owner may notice this every time they get in a car.

During all parts of the emissions test relevant
for the vehicle, assess subjectively the
effectiveness of the silencer in reducing exhaust noise... oh shit

Surely that's like a spare wheel, they can't test the effectiveness of the middle silencer if it isn't there

Still a bit subjective.
Sidelights may illuminate with a blue tinge so long as it's predominantly white.

the new method of inspection gives more weight behind the old reason of rejection... subjectively is a good word to see tho lol

Hids are a fail unless car has light washers or leveling suspension.
About time too.

Yeah same! Someone said on here the other day about it can fail if the suspension has been lowered too much that it is excessive. Some right bollocks in there though!

people can get around the hid's by putting normal bulbs in for the test and then putting the hid's back in afterwards

Surely you could say that about anything in an mot,
I've known people to swap a full set of tyres then swap back after the test etc?

Mot's will always be a pain but unlike the belgians we can have a modded car go through where as ive been told they all have to put their cars back to 100% factory spec

Projector lamps and Xenons/HIDs are completely different things. My Alfa (and Dad's Prius) has projector lamps with normal bulbs behind them, thus no leveling/washers.
Nothing looks like it's gunna upset me there!
