Terrible accident earlier on this evening - heavy fog and rain are said to have played a part in it.

Currently believed to be 26 vehicles involved, with some fatalities believed to have occurred and 10 people with 'life changing injuries'.

My thoughts are with the families of those lost in tonight's carnage.

Just heard about this on the radio. 20 cars and 6 lorries involved and over 20 people supposidly killed so far. People laying at the edge of the road and stuff.

Pretty horrid thing to happen.

Horrendous and once again I'm willing to bet that it had a lot to do with lorries in the middle lane in pissing rain and fog.

We need to get like Europe and have dedicated stretches of motorway where lorries can overtake because lorry drivers in this country take the piss

Now believed to be 27 vehicles involved, which illustrates to levels of damage involved if they are struggling to count the number of vehicles.

Also thought that 'several people' have lost their lives, but no confirmation until all next of kins have been officially informed.

More likely someone trying to pull on to the motorway and causing someone to swerve TBH
Would probably have been really busy last night due to the carnival just up the road

From what I can see in pics is one or both lorries slid maybe one into the other then cars piled into that. Proper final destination shit!

Savage crash.

Must be describing it as several have died because they cannot work out how many didn't make it out of the burning cars.

Terrible terrible accident.

Looking at the location I'd say the closeness to the slip road coupled with poor visibility is the likely cause.

40+ casualties but no confirmed fatalities yet. Interviewed a doc who had 16 patients but no life threatening injuries so fingers crossed its the same at the rest.

Pretty sure they said on the news this morning that 5 people were dead?

Has it changed since? Hope so like, looks like a horrific accident.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. I'm from the area and use the road fairly frequently, thankfully I haven't found that anyone I know was involved in it though.

Problem is that they wouldn't really even know who is there, which causes the confusion about numbers.

I hope everyone got out, does look horrific.
