Aloha
Bought my Mrs a 1.2 Corsa C. It missfires on idle and is unverpowered below 3k rmp. It also failed its test due to emmisions.
I have read the codes and Camshaft Sensor and Air Flow meter came up.
Aparently the Camshaft Sensor can make the Air Flow Meter pop up if faulty.
The car came with a box of bits, and luckily there are two camshaft sensors, but I havnt got a clue where there located on the engine to swap them, so any ideas?

Ok, have seen related posts. Might be between the cam pulleys under the cover. Will go take a look....

Found it, before removing it I disconnected the battery and re connected it, it removed the EML. Drove it round the block and its still missing and struggling at idle (sits about 600rpm).
Have disconnected the battery and put in another camshaft sensor, will go and drive it around the block again in a min. Hopefully it runs ok and the EML stays off......

I tryed both other sensors, they made no difference. Now the EML is off due to me disconnecting the battery.
It also still smells fumey out the exhaust so I assume the emissions are still fucked up.
It idles here:

Not sure if thats correct?
Any ideas? Im stuck now

Unplug the air flow meter, See what it is like then. EML will come on but see how it idles/drives (It will drive flat but if its better than before...)
Otherwise, Back to basics and pull the plugs, see which have been firing and test the coilpack.

AFM: If it drives better could it be that?
Coilpack: How do I test that? Use a volt meter on tickover and see which one is getting spark?
Also, it only seems to missfire on idle, its fine whenever you accelerate. How do I know what ones are/are not fireing? Diff colour?
Thanks alot!

AFM - Yeah, Simple as that.
Coilpack, Take it off and then put a plug in, one at a time in each hole and turn it over, Should produce a nice spark.
Colour could be off, if its just been idling it might even bet wet from fuel.

These issues sounds like AFM to me

Ok will have a look at the coilpack tomorrow.
Just drove it again and the EML came on, just done a check again and the camshaft code came up but no AFM this time FFS!

Mrs has done some more research, and if what she has found is correct the EML isnt on, its the emmisions light?
Dash lights on startup:

The light that stays on when the engine starts (thought it was EML?)

Not familiar with C's but I'd agree with that being EML, the other is a service light.

Yes chris your right the 1 what stays on is the EML
the top 1 (EML) is more actual engine problems like camshaft/crankshaft and knock sensors etc
the 1 with a spanner is more an emissions related light or things that alter fueling therefore emmisions etc
components like EGR valve, oxygen sensor and air flow meter etc
the service light on corsa C's comes up saying INSP in the mileage area on startup
hope this helps

Any history of having the timing chain replaced?

Have done a bit more research and the top light is emmisions, it starts flashing in traffic which apparently means it could be fucking the cat.
Did some more bits on it today, checked the coilpack, thats works fine and all plugs spark.
The car came with 3 Cam sensors, have tried each one of them, still runs the same and the code keeps coming up for Cam sensor and miss fire in a unknown cylinder.
Have tried un-plugging the AFM, doesnt seem to make any noticeable difference.
Changed the crank sensor with a few that came with the car and it still runs the same.
Really havnt not a clue?
We did a compression test and 1 and 4 cylinder got 185psi, and 2-3 got 85psi, put some oil in and got 125ish psi. (no smoke from engine)
Dont know when the timing chain was replaced.
Any ideas?

Bit of history about the car: bloke bought it with a fucked engine, got the current engine of e-bay as 'working' fitted it and thought the engine was knackered (rattles a little - timing chain), got pissed of with it so sat on his drive for 6months and I bought it for £500.
Maybe problem with the ECU? Or is it worth buying a new AFM, Cam sensor and crank sensor?
The only code that comes up is Cam sensor, and sometimes missfire. But I think the missfire is due to the fact it idles so low and runs like shit.
When the engine is cold and it runs on the choke for a few mins, it ides just below 1k rmp and sounds fine. Just runs like shit when warm.

Looked fine bud.

It seemed as if it was the other day, but the handbrake got suck on and I had just fitted another coilpack that was fucked so not sure!
The car came with another ECU, will try swapping that today, if that doesnt work I will order a new AFM, Crank sensor and Cam sensor. TBF I really dont know if the ones that came with the car are any good.

There no white smoke, mayo, coolant mixture, warms up nicely e.t.c.
No symtoms at all :S
