I bought a 42" Full HD 3D Plasma today to keep me busy over the christmas shutdown, i've had a dabble on GT5 in 3D today and 5 mins on career mode of Black Ops, all looks really good so far.
I also watched 127hrs on Bluray and the tv converts it to 3D which was fairly impressive but not outstanding, i'm yet to watch an actual 3D movie on it yet though.
I'm impressed with Plasma, i've never owned one before but the first thing I noticed was the improved contrast over LCD, the overall sharpness is equal though, but that can be expected on a good brand side by side comparison.
I went for the PANASONIC VIERA TX-P42UT30B.
My other TV is a 40" Full HD Samsung LCD.

You've wasted your money, 3D is a bit crap, very tiring to watch for any length of time.

That's gotta depend from person to person though eh, I watched that 127 hrs and it was no ordeal by any means.
I should add its not my main TV, I only use it for watching movies and playing PS3 which is never more than a couple of hours max, maybe 3-4 hours a week.

The other point is, the only 3D film I've seen that 3D adds to the effect is Avatar, everything else it's just there for the sake of being 3D.

The 2D to 3D converter isnt actually that bad, because I have Active glasses, everything in Bluray is still pin sharp, but just with the addition of a manufactured 3D, its a very reasonable render.

John you miserable old beggar.
3D is fab, I whacked on a bit of Lion King 3D in a shop the other day and it was fantastic. I'd have one.
How much it set you back Tiger?

500 Groats, with 2 free pairs of Panasonic active glasses, got it from Currys.
Bloody heavy TV I have to say!

I've got active glasses and apparently one of the best TV's for 3D.
Although it's technically as sharp as without the glasses, in reality it just doesn't look it.

It's a fad and it gives you a sore head after a while.
A clear, normal, picture remains a far better viewing experience.

The length of a film? Surely if that is too long the purpose is defeated?

Maybe you have sensitive vision? I watched that filmed I mentioned in the first post and played 45 mins of GT5 in 3D and was perfectly alright

I literally lasted 5 minutes before turning gt5 off, was terrible, too much movement , head was bursting.

I got myself a 51" 3d plasma last week with blu-ray 3d player and surround sound system, far better than my old 50" plasma and 32" bedroom lcd!
I was told i couldnt watch 3d films or play games right away, need to watch something like 200hrs of normal full screen tv without logos ect to save image burn

Proper films that've been done 3D are ok, but letting the TV convert standard TV into 3D is pretty pants.

Happy to live with 2D tv, my whole world is 3D so 2D is a nice change when sitting down to relax

i find 3D extremely good for about 5 mins then it tires my eyes, gaming whilst different is extremely different on 3D, its a gimmick and i dont think it will be big like everyone is making out

Have you got a 1980's TV that spends most of it's life in the corner needing repaired?

john what glasses does your TV have? did you mention active ones?
do your glasses have a feature in which they turn themselves off if they dont detect movement?

Active yes. They turn themselves off but I don't think it's movement related, I think it's just after a while if it's not got a 3D signal to sync with.

Lion King (/ any animated film) and Avatar in 3D are ace, some of the documentaries are really interesting, with the way in which it adds depth to the screen (good on Pripyat the other day and also on Nazis using 3D a few months back) whereas sports is more of a novelty and for football, I find the different angles and commentators offputting tbh
TV i wanted had 3D and i got a good deal on the transmitter, 4 films (which will be sold when i get round to it) and 2 glasses for £50
