As some of you may remember i asked if there was any chippies who wanted to build me a wardrobe.
My polish painter got his chippy friend over and quoted around £700 all in for MDF and filled joins rather than stud and plastered.
I mulled it over and thought how hard can it be.
watched loads of videos on youtube and found the "tommys Trade Secrets" ones to be the best.
so started it a couple of weeks back when i had the time, no rush, wanted to make it perfect.
my highly detailed plans
outer frame
didnt take any of the stud but heres the plasterboard on
had to move the light switch too, which was fairly easy, just drilled a tunnel through the three bits of stud, two existing and one that i put in.
wasnt happy with the gap on the right hand side though so put a new bit up and fitted the door frame
and finally the plaster which i did yesterday,
was quite hard to start off with, and started inside the wardrobe as it wont really be seen, but it was quite awkward working in the tight space.
soon got the hang of it though.
i wouldnt like to do the ceiling or a complete room though, i would leave that to the pro's
oh and cheers to danielcorsa for your tips, very helpful.

i was pissed of with the previous painters not even masking up the sockets and switches let alone releasing them from the wall.
with regard to paint tihe plaster is 48 hours long enough
ill put a coat of thinned 2:1 vinyl matt (waterbased) on before the colour

DIY SOS had that question raised once as they were painting so quickly onto wet plaster. They use a massively watered down paint (5:1 iirc) and then leave them with paint to finish it at a later date

Nice work.
I did the same as you. Wanted a built-in wardrobe but pissed at the price people wanted to do the job.
Easy enough to do myself with a bit of pre-planning. Filled a weekend or two

It's got a lining, just needs a lath planting on to form the rebate. Probably easier that way for a diy'er. Hang the doors then just fit the lath up to them, no risk of getting them hinge bound that way.

Looks good mate. Although with the trade you are in i'd expect you to be able to manage it! Obv a bodyshop has nothing to do with wardrobes, but its practical skills all the same.
I'd end up having to get my Dad to help me

Looking good Tom, glad my advise helped.
Certainly taking shape, big sense of achivement doing it yourself.
Plaster will be gone off in a 2-3 days usually, if possible leave window open and will dry quicker.
Ceilings 100% need left to the pro's!
