just wondering what the top speed is of a F20 gearbox as i was on my private 4 mile straight road and on the satnav i had a proved 115mph and that was at about 6,000 rpm i thought these boxes would be higher than that as its a 2.0 my 1.4 16v topped out at 114 mph on the same private road as my god doesnt it get there quick it just keeps pulling all the way! just wondering if this is normal?

Around 135mph average.

Wheel/tyre size etc will play a part in it.

115mph @ 6k rpm is quite low, are you sure its an F20?? If it is then i would say its got a mix and match of internals.

Im guessing your ECU isn't standard then?? The standard rev limiter is around 6800rpm iirc.

well i say only at 6k as it was wet and didnt fancy going that much faster, plus think my limiters at 7500rpm its got a dodgy chip of some kind anyway, just thought the top speed would be higher thats all.

I think you could be right.

IIRC, its quite common to fit the 5th gear from an F16w or F18w onto an F20 for a higher top end.

If its an F20 box, it should be higher than 115mph at 6k rpm.

I remember being told on a MK2 Astra sitethat the f20 is a close ratio box and topped out at 140mph......although not everything I hear on the internet is accurate of course.

I hit 137mph in mine, but who knows how accurate the clocks were, it was the standard digidash.

There are a few different types and if you've got a short one then top speed won't look much.

Wide ratio box may improve the situation but you're also limited by engine power and it won't drive as perky down the lower end.

Not far off the limiter then Jed, my old one with about 120ish bhp would quite happily sit on the limiter in 5th at 128 on gps, about 135 on the clocks.

There is only 2 types of F20s

Normal FWD one and the 4x4 cav one

The 4x4 has shorter ratios and higher final drive iirc so maybe op has one of them?

im not complaining as that was with the sat nav that speed was, as even with my 1.4 16v compared speedo to satnav and it was miles out when you got high up the mph as in over speeding as such, my 2.0 dont half pick its feet up tho with this F20 gearbox if its wet and i near imiter the gears like 7,000 rpm i can feel the wheels spin when i drop it into 4th at times, only for like half a second like,
