So next year will probably be my last year living at home so thinking about changing the Golf and having something a bit more while i still can.

I know they need serviced a lot but i'm a mechanic so thats no biggie, i dont pay for oil and get massive discounts on tyres through work.

What to look for when buying other than the usual stuff.

Looking at Evo 4, favourite shape, within budget.

Not looking for heavily modified examples, just something tidy to enjoy for 6-12 months.

The 4s suffer from crank walk mate. Have a look on mlr for the info. Most will have later model engines fitted now anyways.

lol you're probably looking at 20mpg on a motorway run lol, think it can drop to as low as 8mpg when booting it, but doesnt put me off one bit wanting to buy one as a next car

Yep. I personally wouldn't buy a 4. Get a 5 with the better engine.

Depends on what i get for the Golf.

Hoping to have £3500 / £4000 to spend come March.

MPG doesnt matter, live less than a mile from work, insurance isnt an issue i've a trade policy.

Yeah that was his. He had it over a year and is very well looked after. Unsure about the 64k bit like. It had around 90k on the shell last time I was in it and engine had around 30/40 iirc.

He's only sold it cause he's got a kid on the way and needed a cheaper sensible car.

I would just try n get a 5, even if your moving out next year try and get a house near to work I know that is very unlikley but my mates just got a 5 with only an exhaust system on it. But fuck me probably the most exciting car I have ever been taken out in. His has 40k and cost 4500£, defo can't be selling it if you get one.
Is it from 5 onwards the dif servicing is every 3k and needs to be done on computer to bleed it?

It's up to the 3 that looks like a Proton. My mate has a standard 2 and it's great I'd love one. Insurance is £1600 for me. Which put me off a bit.

£5k is too much, £4k would be my max.
