had an AEGO M series but blew it up listening to laptop music too loud. Want something similar for xbox, decided against av receiver and 5.1 speakers.
Looked at the bose companion speakers in the shop and was impressed with the sound from them, and they don't even had a sub unit, just two speakers, but £200 seems a bit steep

Don't know if this is exactly what you're after or what, but I recently bought [url=http://www.comet.co.uk/p/PC-Speakers/buy-LOGITECH-Z323-2.1-PC-Speakers-PC-Speaker/591432these[/url] for my PC. They're great for £35 and have a phono auxiliary input so you can connect your TV etc to them, or use a normal headphone connector.

Onkyo HTX22 is incredible for under £200, doubt you'll get better and you have to option to upgrade to 5.1 later. There's a 200 page thread on AVForums for it if you want to read up.
The reciever is also built into the sum so no extra box to house.

I use similar to these in the 2.1 combination you can buy. Great sound and good grumbling bass

Whats the score with connecting a Sky HD box to the Onkyo? Talking to Jim and he thinks a separate optical lead might be needed to run from the HD box to the Onkyo in order to get sound?

Looks like it has 2 optical in so I would agree with that.
Also has HDMI so might be able to do it that way, optical is easy if it doesn't.

It's got HDMI pass-thru.

Yeah, assuming the Sky box is connected to the tv an optical from Sky to the Onkyo will give sound through that. Or I guess you could connect via HDMI, then HDMI from Onkyo to tv.

How you finding it...I walked in richer sounds to buy it last week and it was £240 but was £190 on Amazon at the time so left it, then forgot all about it and its now £265 on Amazon
Some people say it make a big diff to just buy the additional centre speaker for voice.

It's got HDMI pass-thru.
Note HDMI on the sky box only takes 2.1 unless things have changes recently

True, but in this case it's only feeding a 2.1 system.

not got it yet, ordered online.
Will probably get a centre speaker for it, but will see what its like first.
Amazon is weird like that, on google shopping it came up as £198 at amazon, then when you click the link the price goes up to £265.
Going to richer sounds would cost me petrol money getting to cambridge so not been to look at it, just bought it from your recommendation
i did look on avforums as well.

Its meant to be a good bit of kit for the price, I'm sure you wont be disapointed. I've only ever got to listen to on in a retail enviornment but I'm sure it's even better in a small-medium sized room.

it arrived today, i set it up and it works.
only thing i'm not too sure on is the treble, high pitched noises aren't quite so clear, but that might be a setting or the fact i'm used to tinny tv speakers
