Keep meaning to use mine but always end up using the 2min microwave ones.

I have some brown rice which needs to be thrown in the rice cooker.

best £10-£15 she ever spent

Isn't it weird how much we have in common my old mucker?

I don't see the purpose in them? You put in a cup of rice and two cups of water into a pan with a tight fitting lid, bring it to the boil and then turn the heat right down leaving it for 15 mins with the lid on. Couldn't be easier right?

You can't leave it unattended nor keep it warm for up to 12 hours on a hob.

I don't own a Chinese takeaway so that caveat doesn't really apply to me.

Microwave bags are so much more expensive.

I buy it in big bags and have a bit plastic tub thing to keep it sealed.

Depends on the pan and how low your hob goes. I find that the rice in my parents rice cooker always goes brown and hard at the bottom

Use these and a pan of water, cook perfectly everytime and they're about 20p each for basmati rice in Tesco...

Easy to make

get a 10kg bag, put a cup of rice in a pan, followed by exactly double water content- therefore 2 cups of water.

cook for 10mins then put to a side and dont lift the lid!

also soak the rice for 10mins in water to remove excess starch for fluffier rice

Slow cookers are good because they can be used to produce one of my favourite things:
