Being released
http://www.renault.co.uk/cars/futuremodels.aspx
Whats your thoughts?
Iv still not seen one charging point on any route as yet.
I like the idea but wonder how this is going to pan out, the govt wont let it be too popular as they wont be able to afford the lack of fuel duty income

Nissan Leaf I believe.
Isn't it all a waste of time and that hydrogen fuel is better ? Only thing they bother to upgrade batteries on is mobile phones ! Battery technology hasn't really moved along with the products.
Looks okay though, inside looks quite fresh.

We've got a little Mitsibishi thing and a peugeot electric thing at work for on site pool cars.
They're alright tbh, but far too expensive. If you need to ask how much they cost, you can't afford one.
100mile advertised range is a little generous though when you turn the AC and radio on... then start playing with the electric windows. We got one from 65miles left on the trip computer to 38miles left just by messing with all the windows sat in a parking space

hydrogen is a little more prone to explosion than electric.

Yes because the best technologies always come out before not quite so good, more expensive ones.

the technology is still in the early stages, especially when you're also realising on the government sorting out the charging points.
another 10 years at least before it'll be a good alternative to people who do more than 5 miles a day.

I drove a Kangoo ZE the other night.
I'm all for electric cars if they can get decent ranges etc but something driving while making nearly no noise is do weird. Jump in turn the key and there is a little light on the dash that says GO. that's it!
And it did a wheel spin

I like the idea of them being cheap to run. Most people leave cars parked up for hours and hours on end then only drive 10-20 miles so the whole thing about not going more than 100miles has been blown out of proportion I think.
Not so keen on the batteries dying before you've made your money back.

Two words: Series Hybrid. I don't think battery powered cars are the future.
Awaits someone to quote this post in 10 years time when Lithium Polymer batteries are the dogs bollocks

Yes they are, electric motors are superior to piston engines. It's just powering them that's the issue.

The only charging points I've noticed so far were a few near The Lanes in Brighton.
I saw a Nissan Leaf the end of last year pulled up in a layby - recharging itself with a generator
Until electric cars can be made to have decent range, and plenty of charging stations are available all over the country (possibly even 'rapid charging' stations like petrol stations?!) then I'm out.

We've got a charging point in most car parks I've seen in Oxford. But then mini have been testing their electric cars in the city so it maybe something to do with that

Dont know why anyone is wasting money releasing these things. Battery tech is no where near good enough yet so why bother?
