Is 6 point really worth it?
Considering several cage options
The CL2 which is weld in and this design
The CL4 which is weld in and this design
Or the Safety Devices which is 6 point similar design to the above but is bolt in.
Prices work out roughly as follows
for the 4 point CL2 - 280 + weld in price
for the 6 point CL4 - 500 + weld in price
for the Safety Devices - 693 fit myself
No idea on weld in fitting prices yet, although iv emailed a few places.
Bear in mind at the moment im going to be struggling to find the cash for both 6 point options, and will be spending right up to my limit to afford them.
The safety devices i like the idea of as i can fit it myself, but again its expensive
I can afford the 4 point fairly easily, and could buy it right now if i wanted.
Imo the 4 point will still give me the roll over protection, and will be lighter weight too (inlcuding the wallet lol)
Is a 6 point REALLY worth the extra for me to spend every last penny to afford?

No idea at present could be loads, could be not much cant see it being cheap really.

I would never bother with just a 4 point cage, but that's just my opinion.
I've had a SD cage before and i was impressed with it, i would save up the extra for it and fit it yourself.

If you're going for a six point, have it tied in to the front strut towers, thatll make it much stiffer than the standard 6 pt

i think if i go 6 point the SD will be my option, unless i can get the other welded in for bugger all.

6 point SD cage will be the best bet, and most likely cheapest too! fitting them is a time consuming job. don't forget the SD cage will most likely need some supports welding in for the legs aswell.

As broster said, remember you will need feet welding in for the bolt in cage too.

right just spoke to tony price roughly for welding in cage is £40 per point, that includes making the feet etc
so for a 4 point 160, 6 point 240

Can guarantee though if i got a 4 point then i would be flamed fornot getting a 6

Get the CL4 and get some extra tube then do a horizontal bar between the rear struts too which you can then put harnesses onto

Another bonus of 6 point is you can have double door bars, then you can get rid of the bars in the doors

i prefer having the harnesses in the proper sealt belt points tbh so will probs leave them be, already got a strut brace at that point too.
I think i will buy the CL4 end of this month, then save up for the next month or two to get it fitted.
Tony wants the dash out to fit it, so that gives me an excuse to take it out and cut the shit out of it

Steve - dont just go for a rear cage... get the 6 point.
Oh, ok... just read the CL4 is the 6 with door bars. Have a look at the extras to see what extra bracing and gusseting can be done.
Brace the A piller to screen uprights?
Door X rather than /
Rear X
TBH they are prob a bit OTT for your needs, same as triangulation to front strut tops.
Nice but not really worthwhile on a part-time track car.
That is a very cheap price for welding in a cage! £240!!!
You do know that all the bars come loose, yes? They have to be dry fitted, adjusted, pushed/pulled, welded etc. Big job and really needs to be done correctly.
Maybe check how the outside/top of the B piller where it joins the door top and rear / is going to be welded? Holes in roof, roof off or holes in floor and lower the cage down to get access?
I'd recommend that last option - easy to weld back up and the underseal again.

yeah tony knows the score, he welded in a custom cage for his golf and i think he done his dads corsa, oh and andys puma he did too, hes probably just making it very cheap because its me
he did offer me another option of making the CL4 bolt in by making bolt points on the legs of the cage, that would be £50 per point but i dont see that as needed in mine tbh
