A bit of a teaser....
Take 3 cars.
Corsa B
Impreza (classic)
Skyline (r32 GTR)
All three are to be tested on the same track, by the same driver in identical conditions - which would post a better lap time (track is Oulton park Island for arguments sake). All 3 cars are to have standard suspension.
Corsa - 1000kg, 220bhp (C20XE with ITBs, cams etc), 195 section 888s, 300mm 4 pots
Impreza - 1200kg, 276bhp (standard STi engine/turbo), 215 section 888s, 330mm 4 pots
Skyline - 1400kg, 330bhp (stage1 breathing mods), 235 section 888s, 356mm 4 pots
Which do you think would be quickest over a FLYING lap, explain why?
There is no right/wrong answer, just interested in folks opinions...

Skyline, chosen because I know nothing about the handling of the cars but it's got the highest BHP/Tonne (if I worked that out right)
Lotus Elise 111R
Impreza WRX STi

Skyline, Impreza have 4WD so transmission loss?
I guess the Corsa! Good cornering, good acceleration, lighter so better brakeing e.t.c.?

skyline not 4wd to?
id say skyline as it would provide the best alround compromsie between straights and cornering speeds

Imprezza around Oulton island.
Lots of tight turns, Imprezza will have the best traction.
2 - 3 sweeping turns again best traction.
Would probably lose 2 - 3 car lengths down the straights, if it was a drag from 60 but exit speeds should be a little higher to make up for that..

I'd be favouring something with power around there, Lakeside and Hilltop are both fast, climb out of Druids etc.
I've got pbox data if there are any comparisons in that.

My mates 220bhp Metro (which will weigh less than 1000kg easy) absolutely destroyed an R33 GTR at Knockhill. Gained on it, passed it and pulled away every single outing.
Also running R888's. Different car I appreciate but probably a similar spec to be honest.

Now I read it again, I see the car has to have standard suspension. The Metro had MG TF subframes with coilovers so I guess if it'd had standard suspension the Skyline would have had a far better chance. My money's on the Skyline.

I think (really struggling to remember back) that the Impreza suspension would be the best as standard.
The GTR standard susp is very wallowy, much like the corsa (say 1.6 sport)
I've tried to make it as equal as possible, so stepped brakes and tyres to take mass into account.
Torque would prob be a big factor.... BUT i honestly have no idea what I think would be quickest.
Impreza would understeer a bit
Skyline would oversteer
Corsa would roll a lot
I think it would prob just come down to traction out of the corners to maintain speed

On standard suspension with the cars as described.
Common sense would say, with it being at Oulton
Skyline, close call with the
scooby following behind and the
corsa some distance behind.

I think once you're round Old Hall it would come down to who carries the most speed until Shell Oils.

I had written I thought the corsa would be quickest then deleted it... i just dont know. All would be pretty cack on the corners with 888s. Seasickness tablets a must
