Looking at this - http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-32259125.html
Just not sure about the stairs in the living room.
What I like is its a 5bed with double garage for a good price & its on a private plot of 4 (used to be one big house which was knocked down) with a private driveway, nice & secluded.

Like you say the stairs aren't ideal, wouldn't be a deal breaker for me though.
Could do with a lot of redecorating and a new kitchen/bathroom though.

If you don't like the stairs just put a partition up and have a hall with a door onto the living room.

that is a beautiful family house.
i have stairs in my living room and i'm not keen on them, but that house looks bright and big enough to be able to put a wall up like john said, would mean you can separate the living area from the hallway.

The lounge would be reduced in size to 3m then. Hmmm just looking, not moving just yet. Its nice though & the right price.

also judging by floor plan from photo's am I not quite sure how 5 bed rooms would fit
edit - just read the description - would be better as a 4 bedroom

How many people will be living there? Surely not just you? If I wanted to buy a place on my own, I'd be looking at a high end large 3 bed that needs nothing doing to it.

why does the number of people living in it affect what size he goes for
If he can afford a 4 or 5 bedroom house then go for it
Never have too much space

I guess it's personal preference, I'd rather have a high end place with big rooms. I'm not saying he should buy a studio apartment. I just think unless he has plans for all of the bedrooms I don't see the point.

Why would you want a 5 bed house when just you living there half the year? I would have a boss 2-3 bed penthouse. Your also having to the heat the place aswell!

Looks spot on that mate. Needs a bit of modernising but nice and spacious with nice big garden and garage.
Sod the stairs in lounge. Its not a problem and lounge looks big enough to take it. Although careful planning of the lounge seating might be needed. The sofa they have in there is a bit wasted. I'd probs have 2 x 2 seat sofas instead.
Go for it!

Broken record here but there's at least 10 pages of houses under 200k within 5 miles of Newmarket.

Wtf
The stairs coming down the middle is awesome.
It's kind of open plan.
I love it.
But I'm getting pissed off with the fact it's only a bit more than my 2 bed flat

2 with room for future family plus guest room and an office I suppose. Ideas to move closer to family, an opportune upgrades a bonus. As I said just looking for now.

I would say the staircase was the houses best feature, to sound predictably like a dick.
I would love a house with a staircase not against a wall.

My parent's house has stairs that open out into a big open plan downstairs and it's never been a problem.
