Can you not get the garage to put it on trade plates for the journey ? (Presuming you know someone at the garage)

That hadnt crossed my mind, i could have a word with them but it doesnt look a likely solution

this is a nightmare, found plenty of people who will do day insurance for standard cars but they all specifically say the vehicle must NOT be modified

Get it insured with a normal company, phone to cancel as soon as you get home.

As said, do you know anyone with trade plates.

Are you not having the car on the road for ages after the MOT like?

Trade plates only cover the vehicle for tax.

Still needs to be insured, do you know anyone with a traders policy?

How long are we talking Danny? If its going to be out for the summer personally I'd just insure it for the year, then thats one expense out of the way. However if its not seeing the road this year then obviously I'd give that idea a miss.

Im hoping it'll be out for this summer, maybe im trying to be a cheapskate by saving a few £££ im just really trying to watch my finances this year due to work circumstances.

Cheapest fully comp quote for the year is £880 so far, which isn't too bad if the car doesnt make it on the road for 2 or 3 months say

Personally I would just insure it for the day on a normal policy.

Likelyhood you getting caught in the 8 miles I would say is very slim.

Why not just leave the MOT till the very end after everything else is done then insure it/mot it/tax it/drive it straight away.

Seems like alot of hassle for it to be mot'd then left off the road for a few months.
