Ok so in East Anglia a Hose pipe ban comes into force on the 5th April. According to Anglian Water's website they have stated that it would take Months of continuous rain to rectify the drought situation and thus there are no estimates for how long the ban will be in force.

What legal powers do they have to enforce this?

I found this on their Site :

Legally there is provision in the Water Industry Act 1991 (Section 76) to enforce a hosepipe ban. This has recently been updated by the Water Use (Temporary Bans) Order 2010 which has modernised and widened the scope of our hosepipe ban powers.

The Act provides for fines of up to £1,000 – but we really hope that fines won’t be necessary

Like fuck am I not going to wash my car for the next god knows how many months/years.

They need to fix all the 1000`s of leaks they have or fat people need to stop having baths every day or leaving the tap running whilst you brush your Teeth.

Worse case scenario if you dare to wash your car and a Neighbour (probably an audi owner) grasses you up I wonder what the consequences would be?

you can fill up a huge water butt and then take water out of that into a bucket, just can't use a hose pipe to directly wash a car/on the garden etc.

I am not asking for alternative ways to wash your car you fucking imbeciles.

I just wonder how they would contest this in Court. They will not be lowering rates or giving people rebates. You are paying for a service, if they cannot provide that service then how the fuck can they fine you? They are loosing millions of gallons through leaks every week. Like banning people from using a hose is going to do anything apart from piss people off.

Circumvent the hosepipe ban by holding a riot in your garden, causing the police to use a water cannon.

genuine answer as i have thought about this, either put up with it and use a bucket or maybe risk the hose but do it at night or something or when it gets darker? less obvious at least

The worst bit is, I have a water meter and pay for what ever water I use. If I want to wash my car, then I will as I'm paying for the water that I consume.

Yeah can fuck about with extra buckets of water and watering cans for rinsing. Just makes it a pain in the arse and trebles the time. Good Job I did not go for paint correction last Week as will be a lot harder to maintain. Swirls here we come! *

Exactly its pathetic.

Might have a google and try and find real life examples of where people have been prosecuted and fined £1000. I bet there are fuck all. Logically I cannot see how they would win in Court.

Not here, all the res's I've been passed recently have been full/overflowing.

Seems daft that they went to the trouble of building all the reservoirs in the north and didn't bother to figure out how to pipe it down south.

Also, nobody has ever been prosecuted for not obeying a hosepipe ban, there was a woman on the radio saying so when they announced it.

Exactly.

A national grid for the water network is a must in my opinion.

I remember a good few years ago they were actually filling tankers from Kielder and sending them round the country

Wonder just how much profit UU and the rest made last year?
