Dont know if it would be advisable to weld it?
Get all the dirt and rust off and see how bad it is

Welding a patch would be 10x easier than changing the beam

A corsa rear beam is not made of sprung steel. It's mild steel plate that's been pressed and formed by the look of them to me. No offence fazza but your mate's was probably just a shit weld, you should have no problems welding onto it as long as you prep it properly.

Surely you'll be chasing rust all the time once its started to corrode like that.

A beam from a corsa in the scrappies could be just as bad. The cars in the scrappys for a reason usually, either pranged or rotten / too fucked for an MOT

What to do is clean it all up cut that lil bit out/rotten bit thrn weld in a big biy of shaped metal plate with decent weld to make it stronger underseal etc and should be good to go

I'd get hold of another beam, no way would I trust that beam ever again even if it is welded up.

Mine failed an MOT for same thing. Said i couldn't weld it either as it would still fail. Pretty straight forward to do and while your at it you can put some Poly bushes in too.

just make sure its done right
can fail a mot on an inappropriate repair or modification includes welded repairs or the use of excessive heat to highly stressed components and modifications which are likely to affect the roadworthiness of the vehicle.
