hello , does anyone know if i will qualify for a tax rebate
ive worked the full tax year but recently dropped my contract to 0 hours in September as i became a student , i havnt been getting taxed since although ive probably only earnt about £2500 since becoming a student, my full time contact was a salary of £10,000 , so i got taxed on that amount until sept .
I dont know if this makes sense but if i am due for a rebate when will i find out ?
thanks

I think it's a case of you'll find out when you find out.
I randomly got a letter through my door saying I was getting £540. Completely unannounced and very welcomed.

I estimate I've overpaid by around 2000 in the last 3 years but never ever seem to get a rebate, the just change my tax code so I pay less.
Oh and for the people who travel by train and car etc to work its possible to claim it back if you've work there for less than 4 years.
My brother and step dad just got over 3 grand back each in taxable travel money for the last 3 years, they are giving me the info on how to do it today. They were travelling 100 miles a day for work and got paid a distance allowance and travel money from the employer but could still claim. So might be worth a few people checking it out.

Seany, Im sure that only applies if you paid a mileage allowance that doesnt meet the IR rate of 44p per mile (iirc) and then you can only claim that relief on tax you have paid on the amount of miles you have done.

I don't think so, as my old job where my dad and brother worked we got 100 a week travel money for a 16 mile round trip. And they got money back for that?? might be something else I'm not sure, worth a try though I suppose

Well that will be something to do with the allowance they have as part of their contracts. Point im trying to make is that any joe bloggs cant go try and claim back tax on the fuel they use driving to and from work.
Due to some of the 'specials' on this site, i thought it needed pointing out

It can't be though as they have claimed for jobs with no travel allowance also?
Before I say anymore on I will wait until I get my forms through for my claim.
Just thought it would benefit a few people that's all.

You can certainly claim tax back if you use your own car to travel to temporary places of work like building sites, not sure about a permanent workplace though.

I have been told it has to be for less than 4 years I know that much. One of the people I worked with tried and got refused for 5 years at the same place. I'm sure its something to do with being on a contract and that not being forever. Still a permanant full time job though. Eg my work sent me to the forth bridge for two years and then waverley train station for months. So no permanant place.

I just got my P60 so banged the numbers into the HMRC website:
Result!
It appears that you may have paid too much tax. You may be due for a refund of £1,377.00.
Nice, how long does it take them to sort it all out?

I've had a rebate that took them 6 years to rectify
Then got another letter saying I owed them for a different year so they're changing my tax code
