since my car has been chipped my abs light stays on but brakes still work fine, got pulled up on the mot, neone else had this???

Well you can either spend about £40 to get Vauxhall to tell you what the fault code is on Tech2, or you could use the paperclip method like I have, and do it yourself for free!

You say brakes work - have u tried the ABS?

Was it definitely programmed with the right software version because isn't the ABS controller built into the ECU? Just a guess but someone may have a proper answer.

yes i tried the abs was on a old road slammed all on the trie steering, was fine otherwise i would have gone sideways and ill have to phone the ocmpany n see what they say i guess

Why don't you just find out what the fault code is first?

where is that located? there gonan see if they can find out what the fault code is but its pissed me right off cos it only done it after i had the chip done

You need to short out two pins on the dianostic plug by your fuse box, the two pins you need to short out depends on what info you want to read (ie. ECU, ABS, auto box, 4x4, etc.).

There is info on how to do this on the CavWeb and TopBuzz web sites.

The ABS does not have its own ECU. It is mechanical mostly, with some electricals too. It is the large box on the left of the engine bay with green pipes running from it.

Yes it does have an ECU actually. The thing with the green pipes is called a hydraulic modulator.

So is the ECU built into this modulator? I wouldnt know as i dont have ABS.

it needs to have a ecu to rear the voltages on all 4 wheels and to work out when 1 or more is going a different speed to the others etc just dunno where it is tho

the ecu does have its own ecu, think its in the passenger footwell.

i taken it out before but cant remember where it was doh

So why are you saying that the ABS system has no ECU when you know nothing about the subject?

ABS basically works by automatic release/reapplication of the brakes, which is carried out several times a second by the "hydraulic modulator". The modulator is controlled by the ABS ECU, which basically reads signals from wheel sensors. They monitor the state of the wheels (ie. brakes locked up/unlocked).

The ABS ECU is inside a black box with "Bosch" written on it in the engine bay, the box being usually next to the modulator.

there's 2 types of ecu sam, the bosch one and another one.

i found that out when i went looking for a new one.

Not all ABS systems are controlled by an ECU. I know that on my dads old car, a Citroen Xantia, the ABS system was mechanical, and the modulator stopped the wheels from locking by knowing if the wheel was rotating and how much pressure is being applied through the master cylinder. So i do know something.
