i think it should be introduced but only goal line tech and only if they can have a system whereby if the ball goes over the line it beeps in the refs ear so he knows instantly without having to stop play

It has to happen and will happen. Its the only technology needed in the game. It can be done instantly, with no stop in natural play and its a decision which is black and white. Its either mathematically in, or it isnt. Its not up for debate like practically every other decision a referee has to make in a game.
We cant have games in the professional games where goals that arent, are given and goals that are, arent. It totally undermines the integrity of the game where the aim is to score more goals than the opponent.

guy I sit next to at work used to live with one of the developers of HawkEye, well I saw lived with he was hardly ever there.
Hawkeye have already had a system that would work. They spend months at Reading and other grounds testing it. They presented it to FIFA years ago now and it was rejected...At the same time Adidas were really struggling to their tech working and as they could not offer an alternative and of course whos one of FIFAs biggest supporters....Adidas!

Correct its not that hard. Politics for you. The hard bit comes in when you try and implement it in 'new' ways which is whats happening with this. Hawkeye is proven tech now, used in tennis, cricket + others. Instead we are looking at all sorts of implementation involving magnetic fields etc all which are not used anywhere else in major top line sport.

I can see how it is difficult in football.
You can't do it with camera's, it's easily possible for the camera to be blocked from every angle, even if they were in the posts.
If it's sensors in the ball that presents another problem, it would have to be held in the centre of the ball or you would need multiple sensors, again, whatever method you use it would have to penetrate the ball being possibly covered from all angles by players.
I'd be really interested in seeing what they've come up with that works every time.

Bring the net forward, and get rid of the space behind the keeper, keeper stands infront of his line, it hits the net, boom, goal.

the biggest problem is not mkaing something detect the ball is across the line but distinguishing the ball to say a defenders foot

Sensors would be simple. Stick them in the panels of the ball, sensors in the goal, when all sensors pass through the posts then a buzzer sounds in the refs ear piece.
No stoppages, no video replays, job done. Like Ice Hockey.
Supposedly theyve pretty much developed that anyway.
I'm still yet to hear a proper pundit mention something like that though, they all seem obsessed with video technology when its really not needed

It sounds very easy but it is quite hard to create an electronic barrier that is very accurate. Existing systems our there are not very accurate (as they don't need to be)

get spiders to spin webs imo then get an official to watch the web, when the web is disturbed by the ball the spider will come out to eat = goal

Been a lot more out about this today.
2 methods, one uses a sensor suspended in the middle of the ball, one uses loads of high speed cameras.
Also employ the ti chronos which is very geeky.
Not sure how they get past the problem of players being able to literally surround the ball.
Can't see them being completely effective.

Well sensor suspended in the middle won't work will it, the whole ball wouldn't have to cross the line
Looks like they're going on with it though, so I reckon it'll be 6 months till everyone is moaning about offside decisions being wrong and demanding technology for that. Or penalty decisions which will kill the game. Good times.
