i have been temped to run a let on my gsi and i have been speaking to a member on here and looking into it on other sites.
but i have just bought a new mainfold for it and i dont really want to get rid of it, so i was thinking about having a remote turbo fitted at the end (also as its rear engined i have seen others with turbo'd engines complain or move there turbo from standard position anyway due to heat)

heres where my manifold finishes
sorry for long explination but does anyone know the pro's and con's of this type of setup? like major lag etc
thanks

Must work I've seen vipers and stuff like with the turbos at the exhaust exit

Don't know how it would create "major lag?"

i got told that because the turbo is further away from the exhaust oulet it would take longer to spool up, but i must have been told wrong

surely it would take longer to spool up but cant see it causing to much lag.
try it and find out

there are loads of americans that do remote turbo, use a smaller bore pipe to reduce lag.

up pipe should be suitable matched to the turbo and power being run, you would probably also benefit and help spool by heatwrapping that manifold and up pipe

some issues yeah, what problems are you facing on the imp?

mines 2.5" on the end of the manifold so should be ok then

Gear linkage was a big issue but think thats half cracked now
Im not running a rear beam now, instead its front hubs from a mini - keeping them straight is a problem
Mini front brakes on rear - no handbrake
suspension - how to design it
theyre the biggies at the min

for the suspension couldn't you use a double wishbone setup and still use the mini hubs?
on handbrake issue could you use another pair of smaller callipers that use cable instead of hydraulic?

That's boost threshold. Installing a smaller bore pipe would make no difference to lag.

No problem. To your OP, I don't know much about the remote set up but just looked at your project thread. That manifold looks great but it's hardly ideal for mounting a turbo. If you're thinking about a turbo, I'd look into a different manifold construction. Bit of a pig but would benefit you in the long run.

Tbh that's no remote, I've seen not much different manifolds on fwd turbo cars,
Chris suttons comes to mind,
Only hassle is your manifold runner bore looks quite large so slower/cooler exhaust gases. But should still work.

make sure you wrap the exhaust well, should have no heat troubles. you can buy turbo jackets too.
I like his external wastegate, i bet that car makes some noise on full chat.

do manifolds really get that hot? rofl
craig second calpers may work or a hydraulic handbrake?
think im using rose jointed coilies if i can get some cheap

i think that you legally cant have only a hydraulic handbrake ad it need to stop the car in case the normal brakes dont work unless you run a hydraulic on on separate callipers and lines, if its allowed
im using rose jointed coilovers too, Protech shocks, these are around £100 each
you can get them from protech direct or S&S motosport 07808 889724

cheers mate on number
i did think of that for the handbrake but know a friendly mot tester, anyway the car will be running while mot takes place so handbrake will work.... see what happens tbh

Handbrake has to be cable for MOT iirc

Why not run some hubs off something rwd john? Surely it would make things easier. Just chop them up and rose joint them onto your chassis.
