Strongly advise anyone who's ever had it to spend 2 minutes writing a letter and sending it off. I got an offer back on Thursday and i'm astonished at how much they're giving me back (including 8% interest on everything).

I went thru a claims company. Waiting to hear back now. Could be getting around £1,000 back.

The only PPI i've had was on an Alliance and Leicester credit card many moons ago. They've since been taken over by Santander. I wonder if i can get anything back?

Have you got the letter you sent off Tom? Did you provide evidence of paying it etc?

Is it possible to forward it to me, obviously with all the details deleted / blanked out. Just so I can have a template to write one?

What's your email address, I'll send it on but it was literally a paragraph no details apart from why I think it was mis-sold (i.e. they wouldn't offer the amount I wanted without taking the PPI). They wrote me a letter saying they'd come back to me within 4 weeks, which they did telling me they were behind schedule due to amount of claims and they'd be back in touch (was about 7 weeks in total from 1st letter). I was expecting a few hundred quid (if anything) and I got thousands. Definitely wouldn't be using any of those middle-men, a colleague prompted me to do it and she did exactly the same as me and got hers within 4 weeks.

I got myself into a load of debt and it was pretty horrible, but I'm glad it happened now as it's going towards a house deposit, and I'd never have earned 8% interest had I been saving it I do have to pay some of the interest to the tax man but it still amounts to over 5% interest!

I'm going to look into this.

Is there a way to get a list of credit cards and store cards without paying for a credit report?

I've had all sorts of store cards that I've completely forgotten about.

Don't see how Can't see you can actually make much of a profit (if any) off of a claim.

What happens if I can't even remember if my account had PPI on? Surely I can't just call up and say "Did my account have PPI on?", then if they say yes, I say "Well I think I was mis-sold it."

Surely they can just say "WTF - you didn't even know if you had it just now?"

Just call up and ask for the policy number for the PPI on which ever card / loan you had and if they give you a policy number then you had it, you will need it anyway to make a claim.

I had it on a CC and genuinly didn't know until I recieved a letter stating my insurance provider would be changing. Called and they confirmed it was on the card and sent them a letter basically saying my card number is X, It has been brought to my attention I have PPI that I do not want nor need and feel that I was Mis-Sold when I took out the card.

Have already received a £144 as "Changing Fee Rebate" whatever that is, got a letter stating they are calculating how much they owe me including interest and I will here from them within 4 weeks.

And before anyone asks how I didn't know, I took the card out when I was 18 and was told I would need to pay for the card and being naive I believed them. Then on statements it was billed without a name and therefore I didn't question it. Forgot about it as that was nearly 6 years ago and the letter 3 weeks back brought it to my attention.

Hopefully it'll clear the remainder of that card and I will be debt free

If you don't know then you have been missold, I called and it worked out fine. No harm in trying as long as you are being genuine IMHO

Submitted my claims with Natwest. 2 down, about 10 to go

TBH I think there's no point me doing it for the store cards, I never had much balance on them. One big one is the car finance I used to have.

FYI - anyone with Natwest, they have a dedicated hotline that you can call.

That's who mine was with. GMAC via Vauxhall. I can't remember if I had PPI on it, you could have done though.
